Chicken & Cheese Dog Treats

Ingredients:
8 ounces ground chicken
2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese chopped
1 tablespoon curly parsley chopped
1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
2 eggs beaten
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a nonstick skillet, cook the ground chicken over medium heat until completely cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the chicken, cheese, parsley, and flaxseed meal with a rubber spatula.
  4. Add the egg, flour, and oil and mix until completely combined.
  5. Using a teaspoonful of batter, place onto a cookie sheet. With wet hands, flatten each ball of dough into a small disc.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes.
  7. They are best stored in the refrigerator in a sealed bag or airtight container up to a week.

Chicken Jerky

Ingredients:
Olive oil, to grease wire rack
1 pound chicken breast

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 250ºF.
  2. Grease a wire rack with olive oil (or coconut oil) and place on top of a cookie sheet. This will allow the air to circulate as the chicken is dehydrating. Set aside.
  3. Trim chicken of all visible fat.
  4. Slice the chicken 1/8th inch to 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Place the chicken slices on a rack and cook for 2 hours *(check them after an hour and then every thirty minutes or so. Everyone’s oven can vary a little, so after you make them once you can adjust the time as necessary).
  6. Flip them over after 2 hours and continue to dehydrate in the oven for another 45 minutes, or until fully crisp.

Chicken Cheddar & Brown Rice Dog Treats

Ingredients:
1/2 cup cooked brown rice cooled
1 small chicken breast boiled & cut into bits
1/3 cup cheddar cheese shredded
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup chicken broth more if needed
1 egg beaten

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the chicken breast in boiling water for 4-5 minutes, or until cooked through. Cut into pieces and set aside to cool.
  3. Combine the leftover cooked brown rice, cheddar cheese, and cooled chicken in a food processor; pulse until finely minced.
  4. Place the flour in a large bowl and add the chicken broth and whisked egg; mix until nearly combined.
  5. Add the chicken mixture and mix until well combined; adding a bit more broth if needed.
  6. Dust the counter with flour and roll out the dough to approximately 1/4″ thickness and use a small dog bone cutter to cut out treats.
  7. Place on the prepared baking sheet an inch apart. Place into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  8. Allow them to cool on a rack completely before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.

Chicken Dog Treats

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup cooked and shredded chicken (from about 1 breast)
½ cup shredded carrots
¼ cup grated parmesan cheese, optional
¾ cup- 1 cup sodium-free chicken broth

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flours and powdered milk.
  3. Add beaten egg, chicken, carrots, parmesan cheese (if using), and ¾ cup chicken broth and mix together until just combined. The dough should be firm, but malleable. If it's too dry, add remaining ¼ cup chicken broth 1 Tbsp at a time.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough a few times. Roll dough out to a ¼-inch thick round. Cut out cookies using cookie cutter of any shape.
  5. Place cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake for about 25-30 minutes, until treats are turning golden around edges.
  6. Let cookies rest in in pan for about 5 minutes before moving to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Store chicken dog treats in airtight container in the fridge. The treats should keep for about 4-5 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
