Today we got the honor of interviewing Gabrielle (Ace's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Vella: It honestly started as a cute way for us to document his life but over time, our content changed to showing more adventures and activities we do with him, especially as a reactive dog. Having a reactive dog can be challenging and lonely but sharing our story and activities online has led us to an amazing community of dog friends. It has also been a great inspiration to show that reactive dogs can have fun adventures too!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Vella: Ace has a BIG personality that manifests itself in different funny ways. He’s sassy and super smart which makes for great content. Our TikTok and Instagram content are the perfect mix in showing his personality. Our TikTok is mostly attitude-filled voiceovers from his POV of either mealtime or “day in the life” videos whereas our Instagram shows more of the adventures and chaotic everyday moments.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Vella: Ace is truly the creative director, I just hold the camera! I love to take pictures and videos while we are out with him and all the fun moments we capture naturally come to life. However, when we do want to take more “staged” pictures (like collaborations) and we’ve determined the general idea of the picture, our process includes a whole lot of cheese and takes.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Vella: Posting on social media, especially about reactivity naturally comes with the “hate” comments. At first, it can be really discouraging, but it helps to remind yourself that pretty much every influencer gets these comments and they don’t define you or your content.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Vella: My advice is to do what makes you happy! Social media is a great place to try new things and make the content that you like. Another piece of advice, don’t feel pressured to take pictures and videos of everything for content. It’s great to have special moments with your dog without the camera.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Vella: The short answer: in the best way possible. Since adopting Ace, we have gone on so many more adventures than we did without a dog. We’ve discovered a love for road-tripping and it makes it especially more fun with him!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Vella: We just took a road trip to Vermont and Ace has never seen snow before this trip. When we got to Vermont, there was a snowstorm and we had over a foot of snow. I wasn’t sure how he was going to react when he got out of the car especially with the snow being so deep. Once he got out, he was so excited he was doing zoomies around the yard despite the snow going up to his chest.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Vella: My favorite thing about being a dog influencer would be the unexpected friends you meet. I’ve met some great friends through our social media, even locally in Texas!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Vella: We have two plans we are working on right now! The first being a trip to Colorado and camping with Ace. The second is working on getting an AKC Trick title!
