Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
I started at the beginning of January. It was definitely a journey trying to figure out how to navigate social media coming from a person who does not use social media. I joined because I enjoyed making fun videos of my Biscuit and sharing our time together. Biscuit has helped me cope with my anxiety as well as us working through his separation anxiety. Both of us have grown together and go on so many fun adventures together. He is my buddy for life.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Biscuit is such a goofy dog. He is not your picture perfect beautiful golden, but he is unique and special in his own way. My husband and I always joke that he is just doughy on the inside. Meaning he doesn’t have much going on in that brain except for love and happiness. He can be very clumsy and awkward, but he somehow wins the heart of everyone he encounters. I have also shared his journey of having separation anxiety through my longer form videos. Intermittently I get to show his silly nature through fun music and the occasional accessorizing.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
I will often post videos showing what coming home to my golden retriever with separation anxiety is like. I share these so I can go back and see the progress he makes over time. I will also often find music and then derive inspiration from the music. My goal is to always try and capture Biscuit’s goofy nature. I try to keep up with the trends as much as possible, but staying on a posting schedule makes me late to the game sometimes. I will also often post videos based on Biscuit’s daily life.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
I don’t ever get involved with negativity. I have received some when starting out on Youtube. I never take negativity seriously. If I enjoy doing it, then no one is going to get me down. I have avoided social media my whole life, so I actually find it easy to not take anything personally when it is not myself I am putting out there. I am my biggest critic at times. Biscuit, however, brings me such joy. I won’t let anyone take that from me.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Don’t give up. I have not made it yet, and I am 4 months in. If you love and enjoy it then views, likes, and comments won’t change that. Do what you love. Do what makes you happy. If something doesn’t make you happy, then move on. Take a break when you need it. If you want to do this full time, then my best advice would be to stay consistent and interact with other accounts.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
My world revolves around Biscuit. He inspires me to get out of the house and be active. He inspires me to be physically healthy and mentally healthy. My husband and I are always finding new activities that we can bring Biscuit to. He keeps us young despite us being a married couple that would choose to stay at home as a first choice.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
For some background information, Biscuit always burps after he eats or drinks water. It usually happens multiple times. We were driving back from the dog park. Biscuit has to have his head out the window rain or shine. He was hanging his head out of the window while stopped at a stop light. There was a couple in the car next to us talking to Biscuit. We had been sitting there for a minute and all of a sudden Biscuit lets out a huge burp. I didn’t even react to the burp because I am so used to them. I didn’t even realize there was someone looking at Biscuit until I heard laughing. He had burped right in their face. That was the funniest memory I have of Biscuit. That truly shows his goofy self.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
My favorite thing about being a dog influencer is being able to go back and see all of these captured memories. Biscuits life will forever be documented. I will always have those treasured memories to look back on forever.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
I am working on continuing to grow Biscuit’s account. I am hoping to reach some bigger brands eventually. Hopefully someone will take a chance on him soon. We will continue to document our daily adventures together.
