Today we got the honor of interviewing Lauren (Beaujo's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer?
Patterson: We were told he was a cute little guy, and that seeing a smaller dog going on big adventures is something that should be shared :)
What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Patterson: We were told he was a cute little guy, and that seeing a smaller dog going on big adventures is something that should be shared :)
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media?
Patterson: I would say Beaujo’s sweet personality and older age put him in a unique position. He is also dealing with stage 4 renal disease, which has slowed him down some. But it is important to let other pet parents see this journey through sickness and help them to be prepared.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content?
Patterson: No, we usually determine his postings and the type of picture based on his adventures for the day or weekend. We have been taking him with us on every trip or daily outing, and it always makes for great content.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Patterson: We have seen individuals comment on him wearing clothing and stated that “he was being abused” by having to do so. The negative comments from others on social media is not something we invest any time in. Beaujo is our world, and we love him every minute of every day. We actually let him pick out his outfits, and he has fun doing so.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Patterson: I would honestly say that the only regret we have is not starting an account sooner. I have actually discussed this situation with many people who have very young animals. Yes, the social media aspect, and becoming an influencer is fun, but the primary benefit of the entire situation is having a permanent photo album that will never go away. When Beaujo is gone, we will have these memories forever, which is so fantastic.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Patterson: He impacts every single part of our lives. He gives us so much happiness and he is what helps me to smile more and be happy each and every day. Now that he is very sick, it has become an even closer and more tight bond, as we are now his caregivers. We recently drove from our house in Tacoma, Washington to Vancouver British Columbia to purchase medication. It was $1500 in the U.S., but only $100 in Canada. We knew it was needed for him, and made the journey to keep him healthy. He is worth every bit of effort.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Patterson: There has always been a sense about Beaujo, like he knows what type of pose is needed for the shot. Particularly when it comes to sitting on small objects, or something round, like a log. He makes photos look effortless, even though he is working hard. We had a very good session for a company who sent us their product and we did a beach themed photo shoot. He was able to wear a Hawaiian shirt and tiny sunglasses, and made the photos look great.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Patterson: When people recognize Beaujo while we are out, and they tell us how much happiness they get from seeing his posts.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Patterson: We have been talking more and more about Beaujo’s health journey and trying to bring awareness to kidney disease in animals. The same treatments available to humans is not an option for animals, so early prevention and treatment is critical. We might be partnering with a company who specializes in health forward, vet prescription recipes. They can be made by the owner to their specifications as well. There are also supplements he is using now, and company reps are aware and have reached out to discuss working together.
