Today we got the honor of interviewing Daniel (Benny & Remy's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Sutton: We started our social media channels when we brought Benny home at the start of 2021. We wanted to document and cute and fun moments we had with him, and after a few people showed interested in seeing those moments we continued making videos!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Sutton: They are very stereotypical goldens, love to steal socks, always down have a fun time, and just the most loving of creatures. I believe it is the fact it is so relatable that makes people interested in watching them! They see what they have at home. The one thing that does make our page stand out, is Remy’s training to be an allergy detection service dog.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Sutton: I record as many fun and cute moments I see. From there it’s just putting the finishing touches on a quick, funny, relatable video! Other videos we have specifically for Remy, show her training. When we take her to certain stores, there is a natural story as we are going grocery shopping for example, where you can follow along!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Sutton: The one thing all people on social media believe is that there is too much negativity! Overall we haven’t seen too much which we are thankful for, however some comments that aren’t backed by research on Remy’s training videos are hard to read. We love to state facts and educate people on things we had no idea about less than 2 years ago before my wife went into anaphylactic shock. If we can help one person or advocate for another that is all we are trying to do!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Sutton: Post consistently, try to have the best quality you can, and make them short and engaging. Imagine you were scrolling and saw your video, would you stop to watch it if it was someone’s dog?
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Sutton: Benny was my first dog ever, Remy my second. So I have never had a dog at home before. They are my best friends, the best part of my day everyday. Even the days they have lots of puppy energy, it gets you out the house on makes you explore new ways to train them!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Sutton: The most recent example a lot of people loved is Remy stealing Benny's toys when he is sleeping. She has done it numerous times but I have failed to catch the whole thing on camera until recently! You can see it in our pinned videos!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Sutton: Connecting with people who like our content. It makes it worthwhile knowing the person consuming the content is enjoying it or it is affecting their life in some way!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Sutton: We have a few exciting plans coming in the new year! A special edition product based on Benny is being released in January!
