Today we got the honor of interviewing Tera (Duke's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Tera: When we got Duke, I was instantly obsessed. I finally realized why there is a universal love for Golden Retrievers. I wanted to share him and his funny quirks with the world.

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Tera: Duke is such a sweet boy, there is not a mean bone in his body. But he’s mischievous. His favorite thing to do is to pick up things he’s not supposed to have and then hold them in his mouth waiting for us to discover them. He gets the funniest “cat that ate the canary” look on his face and I just know. He has something!

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Tera: I let Duke take the lead. His followers want to see episodes of “what’s in my mouth now” but sometimes he goes days without hiding things. Sometimes I catch him several times in the same day! I just never know. And it can’t be staged. He won’t hold anything in his mouth unless he’s trying to hide it. He’s a character!

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Tera: Yes, especially when videos go viral. And with Duke’s talent for holding things in his mouth, some people have negative comments. I understand the concern because many dogs eat things they’re not supposed to, but with Duke it’s a game. He holds his prizes in his mouth for us to find. He doesn’t eat them. Usually, I just explain that when I get a negative comment. But sometimes you just have to block those who are obviously just trying to stir the pot.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Tera: Patience. You want to gain followers quickly, but it’s a process. Just continue posting regularly. I try to post a reel a day and stories too. You really never know what is going to go viral.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Tera: Duke brings such joy to our family. We chose a Golden because they’re so good with kids. And he’s 100% my son’s best friend. My daughter’s protector. My husband’s lapdog. And my obsession! He’s just the best boy.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Tera: He absolutely LOVED the beach. At home we have a pool, but he has never been in it. We weren’t sure what he’d think about the ocean. But it was love at first site! It was a lot of work for me, bathing and blow drying him multiple times, but it was worth it!

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

Tera: I just love being able to share Duke with the world. He’s my heart dog. And I feel like he’s touched the hearts of so many after just one year on Instagram! Here’s to many more!

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

Tera: We’re definitely going to be partnering with more brands to share Duke’s favorite things! I’d also like to expand on his YouTube channel, Facebook, and Threads. And just keep posting, letting my silly boy lead the way!
