Today we got the honor of interviewing Kaitlyn (Finn and Tuck's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Quinn: Starting off- I created our Instagram account to post unlimited pictures/videos of Finn & Tuck without blowing up my personal Instagram account/annoy with my over posting of my dogs! Since then, it has blossomed into sharing all aspects of life of two mini dachshunds from Kentucky! What started off as something very small- turned into meeting some other wonderful dog influencers and sharing my love for my dachshunds/ life with them!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Quinn: I think Finn & Tuck are a unique duo in the fact that they really do resemble “yin and Yang” with their coloring/personalities/ etc. I believe our account is very “relatable”; just small town Kentucky living- taking photos from my iPhone with zero background experience in anything “social media/influencing” related! I take pride in being real & authentic in my content!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Quinn: Nothing too crazy! Finn & Tuck both have very goofy personalities: so the ideas really flow for themselves! I am lucky enough (sometimes) to capture the goofy/silly things they are doing to add to our page; reminding our followers to not take things too seriously! Also- sparking ideas off out of our Instagram community of other dachshund parents/ influencers is really cool!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Quinn: Like everyone else, I get in “funks” in my content creating. I start to doubt my reasoning/purpose behind the page itself if I’m not getting “x” amount of likes/engagement or I don’t know “x” amount of followers. I break the “funk” by really just being with my dogs! Watching all of the goofy things that do/ their personalities shine bright sparks the “influencer” flame and ignites my creativity!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Quinn: HAVE FUN! Creating my account & managing all of the content/engagement has been a learning experience- but I truly enjoy it so much! Sharing such a huge part of my heart with others via social media brings me so much joy. My advice is the just START! There’s no “crash course” into starting a page for your dog-but it all comes together as you build your page. The dog influencer community (specifically Instagram) has been such a blessing to be a part of!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Quinn: In more ways than I can even put into words! Initially- I brought Finn into my life to help me through a rough season of my life. The love I had for just one dachshund drove me to get Tuck! Finn & Tuck are my whole world- and have changed me as a person inside and out!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Quinn: We were taking photos on a family vacation. Both boys were hanging out on a pool float with their sunglasses/hats on living their “best hot dog life!” As the photographer- I use ANYTHING I can to get their attention to snap the photos; specifically this scenario using a rubber ball. Naturally- they see the ball- and immediately lung for it- making the float shift and make them wobbly! Luckily- we were able to recover and catch a few good shots but the blooper reel from this photo shoot is too funny!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Quinn: The community! I’ve met some of the kindest/most genuine people in the dog influencer community: specifically the dachshund influencer community! It isn’t a “dog eat dog” world on Instagram: everyone shows their love & support of others constantly!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Quinn: The biggest plan/goals for our social media page is to continue to grow/reach new people! I would love to do a few collaborations with various companies I know & love! I am excited to see what the future holds for @finn.and.tuck 💗
