Today we got the honor of interviewing Xing (Mika's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Mika has brought so much joy and growth into my life. I wanted to share her joy with others, our experience as dog parents, and build a supportive dog community. Also sharing my knowledge as a certified dog trainer. My mission is to create happiness for dog lovers and the dogs themselves.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
I advocate the importance of dog enrichment on Mika's account and Mika is a great example of a happy dog with an enriched life. You can find lots of videos of her doing enrichment activities, solving puzzles while living her best life as a goofy, happy Golden Retriever.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
I jot down random ideas throughout the day and I have this massive list of ideas! When it comes to creating content, I think about my audience, whether they would find value in my content - can they relate or will they benefit from this. And I definitely take inspirations from other amazing creators.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
I always tell myself "you know your video is going somewhere when the troll comments are coming in"😆 Negativity is definitely part of social media. I remember sharing a one-second clip of Mika at a pride parade wearing a rainbow bandana. Oh boy, the negative comments I got from that one-second clip was beyond my imagination! But I learned to focus on the positive. At the end of the day, if my post has brought value to one person, I achieved my goal :)
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Just do it and keep doing it. Being consistent is key to social media success. You will learn ways to improve your content along the way. But just remember - Done is better than perfect!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
EVERYTHING! I cannot tell people enough how my life has completely changed because of this dog journey. I learned a better way of living, to be present, be patient, go outside, and connect with people because of our love for dogs. Everyday is a blessing with Mika💜
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
It was Mika's very first beach trip. It was off season, very quiet on the beach. Mika was off leash running around with her dog uncle husky. She ran into the ocean and came back. Then I noticed she was holding something in her mouth! It was a dead fish! Thank goodness she was able to drop it when I got to her. But her uncle husky snatched the fish right away and ate it😂 (both dogs were fine after the fish encounter)
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
The supportive community. The dog community is one of the kindest, most supportive communities I've ever encountered. The love we've received is overwhelming. I'm grateful for that everyday.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Shhh...I haven't told anyone yet. I am creating a product that will benefit hundreds of thousands of dogs and their owners, and I'm planning to launch it sometime this year! So stay tuned and get ready!😉
