Today we got the honor of interviewing Leira Althea (Guava's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Sechong: I initially started once I became a first-time dog mom. In all honesty, it was inevitable for me...At the time I was a stay-at-home dog mom and military wife. All my time and attention was devoted to my sweet girl.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Sechong: Based on the other creators I follow, I would say what sets us apart is how we advocate for Domestic Abuse victims and how Guava's presence was monumental during a really tough time in my life. As much as we coin the term dog influencer, I see Guava and I as regular beings who enjoy life and go through the motions like any other dynamic duo out there. This is what empowered me to share our story and how common situations like that may arise.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Sechong: For me, it's more so a reverse process. I always think of Guava first and everything else comes after. Whether that entails recording, setting up lighting, etc.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Sechong: Fortunately, I have not. The dog community has been so warm and welcoming for us.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Sechong: Do it!!! These are memories you can hold onto forever with the added bonus that other people will enjoy yall's adventures too!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Sechong: She has been my rock. I truly don't know if I would be as far as I am without her. I remember nights when I didn't know what tomorrow would look like or if I would have enough funds to feed either of us. Now she has a plethora of toys to choose from and a weekly adventure for us to partake in.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Sechong: Guava has been a bandana ambassador for a small business in Hawaii. I remember our last outing in Hawaii, they did an extra special photoshoot so everyone was able to snag a picture with my girl. It was so heartwarming knowing all these people will miss my baby.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Sechong: People can share with me the obsession I have with my dog. LOL
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Sechong: We are in the works of hosting meet-ups and adding a more collaborative community-based event with existing shelters in the area.
