Today we got the honor of interviewing Lindsay (Winston's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Porter: I started Winston’s insta account on his gotcha day! I had recently lost my dog of 14 years and was in need of a distraction. I also have an art degree and a masters in Architecture so I love a good design problem to solve. Creating a successful dog instagram seemed like a fun challenge to tackle.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Porter: Winston is a unique colored Newfoundland and has gorgeous deep soulful eyes. He also is ridiculously funny and a tiny bit naughty so it is fun to follow along and see what he is up to! He also is a slightly above average sized Newfie, which I’m sure is interesting to see!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Porter: I try to just find content in the day to day antics. I love showing all the silly little things Winston gets into, what he’s eating, his adventures, and him interacting with his human bros.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Porter: So far the trolls haven’t found us! (Fingers crossed it stays that way)
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Porter: Consistency and good lighting!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Porter: We are motivated to go do a lot more exploring. It’s fun to see Winston experience new things and it’s great to share it with an audience!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Porter: Yesterday we were taking baby monthly update inspired photos (I’m a mom of 3 so I love a good riff on baby things). Winston was rolling over and just looking absolutely hilarious just like a little newborn baby.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Porter: Getting to share the joy of Winston with so many people!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Porter: We have some exciting giveaways planned and a partnered stay at a local boutique hotel coming up! Keep an eye out!
