Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Westhaver: It’s pretty simple. I just love documenting our life together and Coby is so sweet. I just started filming and making cute videos together and naturally people fell in love with him.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Westhaver: Coby is so affectionate and I show that a lot on my social media. He is always trying to make new human friends and find his mommy a man. I started to roll with the idea of Coby finding himself a dad and mom a boyfriend and the people love it.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Westhaver: It pretty much comes naturally. Coby is just so funny so it’s easy to film the things he does. Other times if I have a silly idea for a video I write it down and come up with a good narrative I think our followers will enjoy.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Westhaver: Of course! There are always going to be negative comments and people that will send hate or tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. I know that comes with putting parts of your life on social media so I just try not to let it get to me and I know that I’m not doing anything with bad intentions so I stay true to myself. People can think what they want.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Westhaver: Do it! Post post post. There can never be enough cute animals online and you’ll realize how many people’s days you make better.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Westhaver: He’s completely changed my life for the better. I was at a really bad place when I first decided to get Coby. He’s brought so much happiness into my life and has truly saved me. There is nothing like the unconditional love from a dog or golden retriever specifically. I really don’t know what I would do without him. I wish he could live forever!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Westhaver: The most memorable time is when Coby was stalking my neighbor in his kitchen and I decided to film that interaction. It was kind of the start of our dad hunt & I made friends with my neighbor because of it. It also went super viral on tiktok so it’s hard to forget that memory.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Westhaver: Seeing the joy Coby also brings to other people. I get to experience the love everyday so it’s nice that people also feel that way about him too. I get messages and emails often of people telling me Coby has brightened their day and there is no better validation than that. It really makes it all worth it.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Westhaver: We’re just going to keep posting. I am currently making beaded necklaces/collars that match with owners. I also want to hopefully be able to bring Coby to people that are in need of some love. He’s the best emotional support baby.
