Today we got the honor of interviewing Rachel (Ovi's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Jenkins: Ovi and I had thought about starting an Instagram page for a long time, and while I had plenty of photos and videos of him, I was worried I lacked the social media knowledge to really break through. With the start of a new year, I decided it was time to try something new and something that I might even fail at. While scary at times, we’re motivated by having fun and sharing the silly moments along the way to bring laughs to those who find our page.

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Jenkins: Ovi is an Australian Shepherd with a tail and heterochromia, so he often gets noticed right away by how different he looks. When it comes to content, it’s purely from the perspective of Ovi and we try to provide a fresh take on the day-to-day silliness of dogs, and Australian shepherds specifically. We also try to mix dog and kid content as Ovi has a human sibling which isn’t often captured on dog social media pages.

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Jenkins: When we first started, I had a little calendar and would plan out content. But then I realized some of the best content was the unplanned, random moments where Ovi did something silly like the time he licked something spicy on the floor. Ultimately, we just try to have fun with it.

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Jenkins: I think the biggest challenge has been learning the tricks and best practices of social media and how to build up a base of engaged followers. Still a learning process, but we’re proud of each other for trying something new and putting ourselves out there.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Jenkins: Take that leap, and be patient with yourself. Above all, have fun with it.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Jenkins: Well, I had to increase the storage capacity on my phone for all these photos and videos ha.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Jenkins: We’ve made several reels about Ovi’s battles with the roomba. As I was filming a video, Ovi’s dad decided to put one of his treats on top of the roomba to see what would happen. Ovi gave us a look like “really, guys?” but then surprised us both by going up to the roomba and retrieving the treat. Made us all laugh.

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

Jenkins: Getting to interact with the great community of dog accounts all over the world.

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

Jenkins: Currently working on growing our fan base and making great content. But who knows where we’ll be a year from now!
