Today we got the honor of interviewing Mari (Laika & Fluffy's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Baracuhy: I started Laika's social media to register our family moments and memories with her. We had adopted her when she was 3 months old, and a cute fur ball we fell in love with, and that's when all started... We shared her puppy triumphs of puppy school, when she started learning the basic obedience training and all the success that came along with it. We share our daily activities such as meeting friends at the dog park, playing with friends, visiting dog friendly places, trips to the mountains, and road trips. In 2019, we rescued Fluffy. Laika and him got along well and she has helped him come out of his shell since then. The fluffy we see today is a totally different dog when he joined the family. I promised him, we would love and cherish him forever. I must say, Fluffy is a lot shyer than Laika, even for photos.

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Baracuhy: Her smile. She has this happy contagious smile, when we are doing fun things. It has captivated many followers along the years. When we first started her IG account, I got messages and email from people battling depression, cancer among other things, and they would tell me how her daily pictures and smile would cherish their days and a lot of time help them coping with whatever they were going thru. I was touched by the feedback we were getting, and since then we never stopped.

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Baracuhy: We always went with the flow of things. Our daily lives, our adventures and such. If we have a trip to the mountains or a road trip somewhere, I try to create posts that will become memories of the places we've been, and maybe other people might like to visit as well. Like our trip to the Grand Canyon. When we do road trips, I register pet friendly, park, hotels, stores, restaurants, and dog parks along the way. Sometimes we just have an ordinary weekend, and we go for a walk at our favorite park for a sunset view and take some nice pictures of nature and the pups.

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Baracuhy: I can say that we never really dealt with anything negative, aside of opinions. But I guess, everyone has one. We welcome everyone who can agree to disagree, in a harmonious and respectful way.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Baracuhy: I say, do it! There is no secret, just start it. That's the first step. It will be easy if you know what you want for your dog's page. If there is just a daily post of your lives, traveling, training, products. Having a guideline kind of helps, so you don't get overwhelmed on what to create or post. Then, once you start to gather followers, you can decide how do you want to grow your page.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Baracuhy: oh my gosh, this is such a great question. Thanks to her, I became a volunteer at the shelter that I adopted her from, and other dog shelters in the area. Volunteering is an amazing work to do. When I adopted Laika, she was actually born at the shelter. This is the first time in my life, that I know my dog's real birthday, how many siblings she had, and breed mix. So, to give it back, I decided that I wanted to volunteer and help animals in need...
