Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Moss: As a photographer, I am a huge believer in capturing every moment to have something to look back on. Getting Camper was the best decision of my life! I caught myself constantly taking pictures and videos of him to remember every stage he hit. I was starting to have hundreds of photos and videos of him doing the cutest, craziest things! I figured since I was getting so much joy out of seeing him grow, why not share with people on social media? Dogs have always brought joy and laughter to my life so my hope was to bring that to others. I was lucky enough to find an incredible group of other dog owners that share their pups and adventures with us daily. Although Camper is only 6 months old, we have found so much support and connection through sharing his life and adventures on social media!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Moss: Camper is quite the character. He keeps me laughing and on my toes constantly. His personality and quirks are too funny and sharing that on social media will hopefully show how fun and fulfilling it is to own and raise a dog. I think most of all, capturing genuine moments of him being the spunky golden retriever he is, sparks engagement from social media. He has so many funny moments but so so so many cute moments that many dog owners can relate to. From videos of him being an absolute menace to a video of how fast he is growing, Camper is quite the relatable doggo!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Moss: Honestly, I don’t necessarily follow a creative process. My main goal is to capture Camper in the most genuine form of himself. I typically try to record or take photos of him all day everyday to have material to use for content until I find something that can relate to what I have captured. My main focus is having fun in posting Camper and I don’t want his social media to feel like a chore, so keeping it as a fun way to share our life and adventures comes with going with the flow of posting him on social media!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Moss: We all know that any form of social media comes with a little bit of judgement or criticism. You are posting your life out there for people to watch, and if others don’t relate to your content, it typically comes with some type of criticism. Instead of letting that take priority in my life, I strive to focus on the individuals that are finding entertainment and happiness from seeing Camper on Instagram and TikTok. With that comes with the struggle of enjoying moments without a phone or camera in your hands. I try to balance moments of Campers life with and without documenting it to stay present and give him the attention from me that he deserves. When talking reality, I am the only one that spends every waking moment with him and if that means a couple of mean comments or judgement from others through a phone screen, so be it! I am the lucky one that gets to come home to the best pup (in my eyes)!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Moss: DO IT. Camper is in no way huge on any social media platform but we do have great followers, friends and family that keep up with him daily! If anything, it has given us such a great community with other dog owners that we can bounce ideas off of and can go to with anything we want advice on! It has also given us opportunities to connect with our favorite brands and inspiration accounts which has been so inspiring! Most importantly we have so much fun creating our perfect little corner of social media, you should too!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Moss: I consider Camper my soul dog. He has forced me to slow down and enjoy the moments that you want to cherish forever. Prior to getting Camper, I spent most of my time inside editing, reading and working. Now I have a reason to get up and enjoy being outside, taking hikes, and getting much needed vitamin D. He has taught me SO much patience, more than needed from his puppy stages… and how to have fun doing absolutely nothing. He has reminded me that life is short and unfortunately (unfairly) dog days are much shorter, to take on everything in life with his mindset; fun, excited and ready for anything!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Moss: Camper and I went to visit some other golden retriever friends of ours, Sugar and Spice one day and had quite the adventure. Spice, a pup a little younger than Camper, is a English cream golden retriever and pure white. They were of course playing and having a grand time, when she trotted around the corner and was covered in red. I freaked out thinking we were hopping in the car to go to the emergency vet, turns out Camper was losing teeth and this particular one decided it was going to paint the town red. My friend and I ended up having to pull his tooth to get it to stop bleeding and he was perfectly fine after. Little to my knowledge, dogs losing teeth is just as messy as kids! We still laugh about the one time we had to pull a dog tooth out, and the sink bath our friend Spice has to endure after this play date.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Moss: The dog community on social media is the BEST. From asking questions about puppy stages to what others feed their dogs, it has been such a welcoming community for us. I love seeing all of our friends on Insta and TikTok and adore all of the friends we have made and will make!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Moss: We have lots of adventures planned for the summer coming! We have lots of pool days to attend and visiting the beach for the first time! I have considered the thought of getting him a sibling to play with so we will see what the future holds for that idea ;)
