Today we got the honor of interviewing Chelsie-Jean (Isles's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Fernandez: I began my journey as a dog influencer thanks to my background in photography and videography, combined with my deep affection for my Dachshund, whom I adopted during the pandemic. Capturing his adventures and adorable moments felt like a natural extension of my skills and passion. Additionally, recognizing the vast community of pet lovers on social media, I saw an opportunity to connect, learn, and share experiences as a dog mom.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Fernandez: Isles is unlike any Dachshund I've seen online or met in person. He sports an extra fluffy coat for a long-haired Dachshund, along with unusually large front paws and his signature mohawk. This distinct combination of features makes him truly one-of-a-kind in the world of social media dogs. His profile has clean and minimalist photography coupled with witty and informative captions, often sprinkled with puns. It’s this unique blend of visuals and humor that resonates with our followers and keeps them coming back for more.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Fernandez: I draw inspiration from our daily adventures, my dog's personality, and holidays. Additionally, I keep an eye out for trending topics or products we like that we can creatively feature. While I aim to post at least once a week, I don’t force it if inspiration doesn’t strike. It’s crucial for us to showcase content we genuinely enjoy creating rather than adhering to a strict schedule.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Fernandez: Yes, navigating social media means encountering various opinions. While we've faced our share of negativity, especially as it relates to health concerns like IVDD, I believe in focusing on the positive connections and support from his followers. I prioritize engaging with constructive feedback and maintaining authenticity in our content, which helps to mitigate any negativity that arises.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Fernandez: Explore and experiment with different approaches. Don't be afraid to try new things and see what resonates with your audience. Remember that patience is key; remember that building a presence on social media takes time. Stay consistent, engage with your audience, and don't get discouraged if growth seems slow at first.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Fernandez: Beyond social media, Isles has had a profound impact on my life, particularly in managing my mental health. He serves as a crucial source of stress relief, helping me cope with severe depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. His unwavering companionship and comforting presence provide me with a sense of stability and comfort through the good and the bad.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Fernandez: Every year, our family tradition includes taking Christmas photos, and one of the most memorable years was when we decided to don matching pajamas adorned with artistic renditions of Isles. The photos graced the front of our family Christmas cards, extending warm wishes to our loved ones, including our Instagram connections, near and far.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Fernandez: The best part about Isles being a dog influencer is the opportunity to connect with a community of fellow pet and dog lovers. It's incredibly rewarding to share our adventures, stories, and insights, and to receive the love and support of our followers in return. Being able to spread positivity, laughter, and joy through our platform is truly fulfilling, and I cherish the deeper bond Isles and I have because of it.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Fernandez: In the pipeline, we have some exciting collaborations with fellow pet influencers and brands that we can't wait to share with our followers. Additionally, we're brainstorming creative content ideas to keep our audience entertained and engaged. Whether it's traveling, learning new tricks, or simply sharing more of our everyday moments, we're committed to bringing joy and positivity to our social media community.
