Today we got the honor of interviewing Maricruz (Mae & Blu's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Castillo: I just thought one day to make my dog an account and it just went from there. We do travel a lot so I thought posting about it would be fun as well as sharing different dog products we love and use on a daily basis.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Castillo: I believe my dog's breed makes her unique. She is a brindle American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She’s so beautiful!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Castillo: I like to come up with ideas around what I will be doing for the day, week, month like dog events or going out of town, new park, etc. We also look at other dogs' social medias and see what type of content they’re posting. I never brainstorm.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Castillo: I’ve faced challenges where I felt like my content wasn’t good enough because it didn’t get many views or likes. I doubted myself on making a dog account.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Castillo: Do it! Whether it is to make money or genuinely to post about your dog, it’s fun. I love meeting other pet parents and asking them questions about items or just seeing what other people feed their dogs, do with their dogs. I love seeing dogs on my stories all day long!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Castillo: She has influenced me to be a better dog mom. I’ve seen different methods of training, feedings, positive reinforcement, etc. Not only is it good for myself, but I can also educate others on topics they didn’t know. Mae was my first female dog and I learned much more than my male pug.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Castillo: Her first Easter 2023, it was one week of having her and she was the tiniest little thing, I didn’t know what was next for the both of us as she was a surprise to me from my boyfriend.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Castillo: Meeting other dogs & pet parents.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Castillo: Not sure!
