Today we got the honor of interviewing Joey (Miss Molly's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Vidal: I’ve always loved dogs, but it wasn’t until my partner surprised me with Miss Molly in 2022 that I got to experience having one of my own. She’s an Italian Greyhound, and her unique charm quickly made her a local celebrity. I started her Instagram and TikTok to share her joy and bring more wholesome content to social media. After a viral reel of her trying snow shoes, her page took off, and the positive feedback since then has been keeping me going. Running her page has been a super rewarding hobby that allows me to share our special moments with others who love dogs maybe as much as I do!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Vidal: What I think is unique about Miss Molly and her page is that you get a whole lot of fashion and style packed into a 6.5 pound pup, we’ve projected a relatable delulu character onto her and captured so many videos of her cute, dramatic, chaotic-good personality. Also, Italian Greyhounds are not as well-known as I thought, when people guess her breed I’ve heard everything from Chihuahua to baby Great Dane. This gives her a bit of uniqueness that has only benefitted her growth online. I have to acknowledge that with support from others in the amazing Iggy community and brand partnerships, we’ve been sent custom fashion, gifts and even words of affirmation. Having all that help has helped me to keep things fresh and fun, this is key! Seriously though, Molly must have somewhere around 80 outfits. Now imagine if she was Great Dane sized… we’d need a storage unit.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Vidal: First I stage a photoshoot, then I just channel Miss Molly’s character of delusion, nonjudgment, and relatable charm and let the caption come to me. Seriously though, a lot of her content is relatively spontaneous, usually I’ll only have a brief idea of what I’m going to post in a week. When it comes to reels/Tiktoks, I save a lot of funny videos as inspiration and get to them when I feel inspired.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Vidal: Yeah, but only from her viral videos where she is wearing shoes. Some people seem to think that dogs wearing booties occasionally to protect their feet isn’t right. I will occasionally respond to certain messages explaining the practicality of dog’s feet being protected from hot pavement, snow and rock salt, but oftentimes there isn’t a response… interestingly enough! I learned to not interact with majority of those comments, and embracing the “Hide” comment feature, haha.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Vidal: Support others doing the same, develop a character for your dog, go to breed meetups, respond to fans, be warm and remember that it should feel fun and unserious!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Vidal: She’s impacted my life significantly in terms of giving me hobby, purpose, joy, and helped me feel more responsible and more social. She’s also greatly loved our my family and friends and she brings them all a lot of smiles. This means there’s always someone willing to dog-sit her when we need and if not, she goes everywhere with us in a tiny carrier that hardly anyone notices! Perks of having a perma-puppy.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Vidal: I was amazed by her ability to keep up during our first moderate-level hike. I figured I would need to hold her during some of the steeper and smoother ridge climbs but she immediately began scaling it with speed, she always surprises me! These dogs are fearless, except of course when it comes to vacuums, rain, nail trimmers, when their environment changes slightly, uh oh, wait, there’s a lot of interesting fears there…
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Vidal: Hearing people tell me that they go through Miss Molly’s page when they need a pick-me-up! I thought it was just me!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Vidal: We have a few brand promotions and potential giveaways in the works that I’m excited to share with everyone! Besides that, we’re greatly looking forward to capturing more outdoors moments this Spring now that it’s warmed up!
