Today we got the honor of interviewing Shuya (Ollie but I like to call him Ollieboi's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Mei: When I started this account for Ollieboi, it was meant to honestly be a memory for me. I felt like Ollie was getting older and I wanted a place where I can look back on our adventures🥺. I had over 30k photos of Ollie (ik😆) and it was getting a bit overwhelming to look back on, So I decided to make an instagram for him! We didn’t expect much but we gain so many new friends! Ollie is such a derpy boi and he makes me laugh everyday! We would love for you to join us on our adventures and hope Ollieboi can make your day too👉👈
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Mei: One thing I think that people love the most is our humor and Ollie’s love to blep. Sometimes after a long day or even a bad day, a funny picture/reel can really help forget about our stress or problems, even for just a second (at least in my experience haha) so I really want to create that with Ollie when our content is being shown🤭
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Mei: Since we just started in November, we don’t really have a specific creative process yet. We definitely still have lots to learn! But one thing that has been working for me are writing my ideas down and trying to organize our photos/videos so when I have time to edit, I can refer back to my notes and which photos/videos I want to use. Hopefully that makes sense😭 definitely not the most efficient but it’s working for now 😆
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Mei: Since we’re still a very small account, we haven’t ran into something crazy yet! But I’m definitely mentally preparing myself for that day since it is social media and you never know what to expect 😭
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Mei: Honestly, just go for it. One thing Ollie has taught me is to not be scared of being judged and just do the things that makes you happy! It makes me so happy that I get to share my moments with Ollie to our followers and if that makes our followers day, it definitely makes it all worth it! It’s really all just a big doggie community 🧡🧡
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Mei: Ollie definitely influenced a lot! After the lockdown, I struggled a lot mentally. He’s honestly the reason why I get out of bed, go out to hikes and be more social! Even though Ollie is a couch potato like me🤣, the times we do go out, it makes me so happy that I have a buddy to do it with!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Mei: One of our most memorable moments were when we went to Canada for our trips! After the lockdown was over, it affected Ollie a lot. Ollie has been a bit more reactive especially in crowds where he’s gets anxious and stressed. We tried to work with different trainers on this but ultimately, we decided to just work with what he’s comfortable with. So when we had the opportunity to do a hiking trip to Canada, it definitely unlocked some core memories for me. I always wanted to take Ollie on city trips but since he’s gets too overwhelmed, it’s prob not the best idea. 😭 when I am on city trips, he’s at my grandparents house which I guarantee he 10000% prefer more then wherever I’m at 🤣 He loves his grandparents!! He gets cuddles, attention and unlimited food 🤣🤣 After we got back from our Canada trip, we started our IG to share our memories.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Mei: I love being able to interact with other doggos and be apart of the community but my favorite moments are when our followers message us and let us know how much our reels made them laugh and how it made their day. I don’t think anything else can beat that feeling🥺🧡
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Mei: I look forwards to more laughs and we hope to go on another hiking trip like Canada with Ollie soon! Our goal for this winter is to rent a cabin and bring Ollie to see the snow since he LOVES snow and nyc just isn’t snowing😭 we’re super excited about that and I’m prob going on hiking trips from now on😆 city trips don’t hit the same without Ollie🤣
