Today we got the honor of interviewing Katie (Otis's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
When I got Otis at 8 weeks old it was impossible to not always take photos or videos of him because he was so stinking cute! Each day I would share a cute little clip of him and things just took off from there!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Otis is truly such a baby! He shows an extremely cuddly and affectionate side of himself to his followers. From being kind to kittens, to snuggling up against his mom..our community just loves it!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
I think something important is to do what comes to your mind! No idea is a bad idea. I like to see what my audience gravitates towards, and what gets positive engagement , then tailor it that way. For example cuddling with Otis, carrying him around, or just a funny moment in our day. It can be nice to draw inspiration from our other dog friends in the TikTok community, but always make things feel your like your own!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Most definitely! I think it is all apart of the process. Social media can come with trials and tribulations. From time to time users like the give their opinion on what they think I am doing wrong as an owner. I always remind myself that I know I am doing the best!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
I would say try your best to be original! It can feel like a lot of pressure for your dog to have some extremely unique niche right off the bat. Just know that’s not exactly normal! If you are documenting what you think is just a funny moment or extremely cute, chances are other people will love it!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
I am naturally a little introverted. Otis has forced me so outside of my bubble! We have met so many people and gained such a beautiful community of people and other dogs. I would never have had that without him!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
I think the most memorable video we captured was of Otis at 9 weeks old interacting with my brothers cat for the first time. The cat was very timid with Otis and there was this beautiful moment where he brought the cat one of his toys to play with and gently placed it down almost as a peace offering! It perfectly showcased Otis’s sweet and gentle nature.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Otis and I bond so much from it!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
We have some very exciting work coming up with brands that we are honored to work with! We can’t wait to share with everyone!
