Today we got the honor of interviewing Alexander (Phil's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Buffone: I got Phil during the Pandemic. My parents had just divorced a year before and we were preparing to sell our childhood home that we had lived in for over 30 years. The pandemic halted that process and forced my entire family - including my divorced parents to live together all under one roof. We had grown up with a Bernese Mountain Dog and I had always dreamed of getting my own one day. It seemed like the perfect time. I got Phil in January of 2021 and he helped us through some really tough times. He brought so much joy to a really dark time in our lives and I wanted to share that with other people so I started creating content on TikTok and it blew up. I've loved sharing Phil's story with the world.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Buffone: Everyone knows Phil! We get stopped everywhere we go - Phil is a particularly regal looking Berner. We also coined the tagline "Hello my name is Phil and I am vicious" because he looked especially adorable when he was a puppy. He is super friendly, we love to hop on social trends and have a great relationship with our community.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Buffone: I work with my social media strategist in order to plan our content for the month. We look at what is trending to see how we can enter the cultural conversation with Phil. I then edit everything, post and do community management. It is a lot of fun!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Buffone: We have been really lucky to have mostly positive comments on social. Any time that we have had a negative comment, we will either ignore it or block.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Buffone: Just do it! It can truly change your life and enhance your relationship with your dog even more. It's one of my favorite things I've ever done.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Buffone: Phil has given me a sense of purpose. He is my best friend and helped me through my parent's divorce. I'll be forever grateful for him.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Buffone: I am also a Volunteer Firefighter and I've had a few times where I've been able to bring Phil to the Firehouse with me! The Firefighters are always so happy to see him :)
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Buffone: The community and connecting with other amazing dog lovers!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Buffone: We're working on a new interview series with Phil - coming soon!
