Today we got the honor of interviewing Jennifer (Phil's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Kornkosar: I have always been a pretty private person, and not very active on my personal social media. When the pandemic hit and we were all homebound, I was craving connection to the rest of the world like many others. I had hundreds and hundreds of photos and videos of Phil, and decided to start posting them daily on his (previously neglected) Instagram account. There I “met” and connected with other dog lovers and found a way to keep myself “social” during a time when the world felt like it was closed off in many ways.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Kornkosar: He has these huge, saucer-like eyes, and when he smiles he’s pretty ridiculously cute. He’s also adorably awkward.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Kornkosar: I don’t usually plan anything out. Being in the film and television industry, I just like capturing photo and video of him on a daily basis, doing basic dog things. His feed is basically just a day in the life of type of feed, accompanied by cute music and occasional adventures.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Kornkosar: *Knock on wood*, I haven’t to date faced any negativity, that I am aware of. My biggest challenge has been being consistent, especially now that work is back to full speed and I have less time to dedicate to social media.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Kornkosar: Find your style and focus on your dog’s quirks/what makes them stand out. Be consistent and post as regularly as possible.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Kornkosar: I started a small business making leashes because of Phil! I made a leash for him and everyone wanted one, so JAK + PHIL was born!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Kornkosar: It actually happens pretty regularly, but I never tire of how funny and cute it is…Phil has gotten so used to taking photos on benches and logs, that whenever he sees one, he will jump on it, smile, pose, and do a quick nod at me to tell me to take his photo.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Kornkosar: The community of other dog lovers I’ve gotten to know and interact with.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Kornkosar: Hoping to do a couple of road-trips this year with Phil, and now that we are part of the Fi Dog family, I have peace of mind knowing that even while we are traveling I can keep track of him!
