Today we got the honor of interviewing Pauline (Tato's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Funny enough, Tato's instagram account wasn't started with the intention of becoming a dog influencer. When I got her as a puppy, I was posting her nonstop on my personal account. I felt like I was spamming my friends too much so I made a separate account for Tato for any of my friends that wanted to follow her adventures. But then other people started following her account and I was really surprised when her account started taking off!

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Tato has a lot of quirks! From the way she drinks water (half the water she drinks pours out of her mouth and onto the floor), the way she tells me to hurry up to go on our walks (she grabs my pants and shakes them around), the way she shadows you (you're never alone on the toilet), the way she drools over all fruits and vegetables, and the way she's always rolling over to show her belly... she charms everyone she meets and makes people crack up all the time.

A lot of people on Instagram have told me that Tato makes them laugh, or that she brightens their day, or that she has so much personality. It makes me really happy how many people enjoy following along on Tato's adventures!

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Our process is pretty simple. Every single day, at any given moment, I look at Tato and can't help but think about how cute she is. And then I take like 10 to 20 photos of her, haha!

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

I've had a few negative comments on posts before. If people feel the need to write unkind comments on a lighthearted dog Instagram, I think it says more about them than it does about me, so it's easy for me to brush it off.

I did find it challenging at first to balance the partnerships and collaborations I accepted. I think I was really eager for every opportunity, and got overwhelmed with how many commitments and obligations I was making. What started off as a hobby actually began to feel like work. Now I am more mindful of what collaborations I accept and only take on 1 or 2 at a time which works better with my busy schedule.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

I think the most important thing is consistency and reaching out and connecting with other dog accounts and business accounts. I was posting sporadically because my account was only for fun, but once I started posting regularly, about 3 to 5 times a week, I was getting a lot more engagement.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

She has brought so much joy and happiness to my life. Every day I look forward to playing with her and taking her out for walks. Seeing her happy makes me happy.

My days are often planned around her usual schedule of potty times, walk times, and meal times, so she also helps me stick to a daily routine and schedule, which I think helps me be more productive with my time to ensure that I have enough time for her.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

I was at a corgi meetup not too long ago and Tato ran full speed into another running corgi. Everyone was laughing at their collision and how they were totally unbothered and kept playing and running around like nothing happened!

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

I think my favourite part is connecting with other dog influencers, particularly corgi influencers. I've learned a lot from other corgi owners and through them I've found lots of awesome small businesses to shop from, got to participate in a corgi Christmas card exchange, got to go to corgi meetups, and got lots of corgi-friendly product recommendations like dog stairs and dog jackets that fit their unique shapes.

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

I've really loved collaborating with Canada Pooch and I'm looking forward to sharing their spring/summer collection this upcoming season!
