Today we got the honor of interviewing Marian (Angus & Jono's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Phan: It started when they were puppies we wanted to document their adventures since we’re pretty active here in the PNW- but then it grew to more than that. We discovered that Angus was really fast and he started winning corgi races, and Jono has so much personality for one small dog- we wanted to share both of them even more! Unfortunately Jono grew sick, so we deactivated and were off social media for almost three years, but he’s doing so much better now- and we’re back! 🥰
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Phan: Angus is a racing champion, and has been on ESPN multiple times! He’s also been interviewed by multiple news stations and raced for the Seattle Seahawks. Jono has such a big personality, which is strange because he also never barks- which is also very strange for a corgi. But he is the sweetest dog we have ever seen. Besides that- they both are very active and adventure quite a bit in the mountains and water!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Phan: It’s pretty easy when you have two dogs with so much personality haha but I’ll typically just show what they’ve been up to (any recent adventures), day in the life, or relate it back to any trait they have (like Jono being cuddly and loving sleep) and it works out!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Phan: Definitely. I’ve honestly just learned to ignore it. There will always be people trying to bring you down.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Phan: Keep going!!! It’s going to be hard, and sometimes you’re going to feel like you’re doing all this work for just a couple followers, but just think about how happy those followers are seeing your pup, even if it’s not very many. If you post the content you want to share- that’s really what matters is showing the side of your pup that you know and love.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Phan: It may be corny, but our worlds now revolve around them. We try to incorporate them into all our plans, events, and travel- and when we can’t. we’re missing them terribly and will always bring them something back! I remember on our honeymoon we were constantly looking at their pictures and missing them. Don’t get me wrong, we still had a great time, but by day 10 we were ready to come home.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Phan: There’s been a few, but some of our favorite moments are the candid ones. For angus it was when we were on a camping trip and we caught him just looking out to the mountains and lake, really just enjoying the moment. For Jono, we find it super funny how he is the neediest, sleepiest dog we have ever met. He will claw you for attention, even if you’re already petting him!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Phan: Sharing amazing moments that I have with our pups, and really showing what great and funny dogs they are. The community is also amazing, and seeing all the other precious dogs and pets out there are another plus!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Phan: Right now we are just trying to get back into the swing of things, a lot has changed in the three years we’ve been gone, but the last month we’ve been back have been so great already! We’re thinking about adding a third corgi, my husband said if/when we hit 100k followers so we’ll see 👀
