Today we got the honor of interviewing Michaela (Mylo's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Vlckova: I’ve always wanted a pug and I kept following these cute pugs on instagram from my personal account and they were just hilarious, always made my day. After we got Mylo, I decided to do the same for others, trying to brighten up their day with silly and cute videos.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Vlckova: Mylo is one of a kind haha. Obviously all the pugs are hilarious, but Mylo has always been different. He was the last puppy there when we got him and his name was Trouble. Mylo is a very fit pug, he never stops moving. We get lots of comments from people saying that finally they can see a fit pug. He’s also known for his special crazy zoomies.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Vlckova: It just comes naturally, we always have our phones ready, because you never know what this little puggy will do next. So whenever he does something funny or he’s being too cute to bear, we just snap it on the camera straight away. Sometimes we do think hard about what videos we could take, usually things that humans do that attracts lots of attention, like having a pug cut the grass or water a plant, having him hoover in a wig, it’s just class. People love these videos.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Vlckova: Yes, Mylo is a pug so there’s lots of people out there against pugs and their breathing problems. We get lots of comments and messages that pugs shouldn’t be bred. Besides this there was a few things like when we posted a video of Mylo wearing a collar instead of a harness or when we gave him a bit of whipped cream, there is of course always someone criticising something. And it can be ANYTHING. We tried to reply to these comments and messages at the beginning, but as Mylo’s reach went up, it just kept happening more so now we just ignore it and it doesn’t bother us. There is no point, it doesn’t matter what we do, there is always someone criticising.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Vlckova: We’d say definitely do it, it’s fun and you can find plenty of friends. We found the best pug community via Instagram and we love watching their daily life and they love watching Mylo’s! Just keep on it and be yourself, follow trendy videos and engage with others.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Vlckova: A lot! We could not imagine life without him, it would be so boring. What we love the most is that he keeps us active. We go to the beach nearly every day, we hike a lot, because he loves jumping on and off of rocks. Basically nearly everywhere we go is for him. Also him being an influencer, we do go out a lot to take content for social media, which takes most of our time. He also inspired us to start our own company with dog walking accessories, which is fairly new, so it’s very time consuming trying to keep up with Mylo’s account and the business account, but we’re doing our best!
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Vlckova: There was a time when we got this super big tennis ball (it was nearly bigger than him haha) and we tried to take a video for instagram of him playing with the ball on the beach, but the ball slipped into the sea and it was a goner. As it was floating away, he kept running along the shore trying to get the ball back, barking at it, but he couldn’t. The water was too cold for him and back then he didn’t want to get his paws wet. You should have seen his little puppy eyes, he was so confused, like where’s the ball gone haha.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Vlckova: Definitely making like-minded friends! But what we also love is to support other businesses. As a dog influencer we of course make lots of ads for other companies we love and use on a daily basis and we love seeing someone go and buy the stuff we rep for, because they trust us. It’s a relationship like none other.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Vlckova: We try to mainly focus on growing our brand at the moment. Mylo takes a massive part in this and he’s helped us a lot. It’s not officially announced yet, but we’re working on a new design that Mylo was definitely the inspiration behind. All our effort goes into that now.
