Today we got the honor of interviewing Cameron (Jasper's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Childress: As a photographer, Jasper was one of my first models I worked with. During my learning phase, he eagerly posed in return for outdoor adventures and treats, providing ample opportunities for me to gain experience behind the camera. After capturing various shots of Jasper, I wanted to create a platform to share the photos with a broader audience. Leading me to create his Instagram page, @Themixedgolden. As I began sharing, I received considerable feedback on Jasper's uniqueness and majesty. To this day, Jasper remains one of my most photogenic models.

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Childress: While Jasper is labeled as a Golden Retriever, it is clear that he is no ordinary Golden. Jasper is a brindle Golden Retriever mixed with 20% German Shepherd, which is where the name, The Mixed Golden, is stemmed from. Aside from his unique appearance, we are very connected with our community. Having this platform has allowed me to connect with fellow dog moms creating new relationships. We have even connected with dog moms on the other side of the country who have shared photos of their dogs who have similar features as Jasper.

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Childress: Aside from posting photos from different adventures, our content is created around relatable dog mom content. For the most part, my creative thoughts flow best while Jasper and I are out exploring nature.

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Childress: Social Media is filled with many different people which brings a lot of different opinions. For example, some of my content is based around training which can be a very controversial topic. I have had trolls message me putting down my training methods due to their own beliefs. When I receive these messages, I do not give them much energy unless there is an opportunity for an open and respectful conversation.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Childress: As someone who had no prior experience with social media, my best advice is to just start posting! As you slowly narrow it down to what you are most passionate about, the creative process flows more easily. Another tip is to really connect with your audience and build your community. When you have high engagement it helps you stand out and makes your content more meaningful to your community.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Childress: “I’m a Dog Mom” is truly my mantra. My days are centered around Jasper and I honestly wouldn’t want it any other way. We spend the morning watching the sunrise and ending our day with a sunset walk. Without him, I don’t think I would be spending as much time in nature as I do now.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Childress: Some of my most memorable photoshoots I’ve had with Jasper were during our adventure in Sedona, AZ in 2023. Every hike we took was such an amazing view that all the photos ended up to be beautiful. There was one hike in particular that I treasure most. This one led us to a stream where we were able to swim and hang out. I think this one was also Jasper’s favorite because swimming is one of his favorite activities. Swimming in such pure water while being surrounded by the beautiful red rocks was a breath-taking moment.

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

Childress: My most favorite part about being a dog influencer is being able to share the joy that Jasper brings into my life. It’s such an amazing feeling knowing that he is able to make others laugh and bring them happiness. Another part that I enjoy is being able to have a creative outlet. I love being able to share parts of our lives and promote things we love, especially small businesses.

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

Childress: After attending Goldie Palooza in Southern California, we had some new opportunities to collaborate with other dog influencers. Though we are still planning, I am excited for what is in store!
