Today we got the honor of interviewing Rachel (Tom's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Broderick: I never thought I would become a dog influencer, but from the day we took Tom home, we knew it would be unfair not to share him with the world. Now that he's a little over a year old, we're so happy to be able to look back on so many great memories through his Instagram. It's like his baby book!

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Broderick: Tom is the perfect mixture of handsome and loyal but also quirky and naughty. We are first time dog owners, so it's been so fun to share our wins and losses (including a few area rugs and socks along the way).

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Broderick: Tom is a natural in front of the camera. I take a ton of pictures and videos (you'd know if you saw my phone) and try to capitalize on drafting posts whenever I'm feeling most creative. At the end of the day, the entire motivation behind each post is to brighten our followers' days, even just a little!

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Broderick: Luckily, Tom's account has been mostly free of any negativity and we hope to continue to use his content to uplift those around us and inspire future dog owners!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Broderick: Be authentic and let your dog be himself/herself! Don't feel like you have to follow the latest trends. Sometimes, something that feels simple or trivial might actually be a viral post!

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Broderick: Tom is a part of our family. We look forward to waking up to him every morning. At first, my boyfriend was apprehensive to get a dog, but now he can't imagine our life without Tom. Also, we've had so much fun navigating Tom's training journey with the help of our trainer (@trainingwithbria) - the amount of dedication, consistency, and persistence required is eye opening, but so worth it.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Broderick: One weekend, we were visiting Tom's grandparents in Connecticut. He quickly made himself at home by launching himself on top of the dining room table. To this day, we have no clue how an 80+ lb Golden could have launched himself up there, but we're so glad we have the content to share with our followers.

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

Broderick: Making people smile through Tom's posts.

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

Broderick: Look out for many more posts where Tom is wearing hats, carrying sticks, and/or standing on tables (or maybe, doing all 3 at once). Stay tuned - he might be wreaking havoc in a city near you :)
