Dog Influencer Interview
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Pearson: Zoro is the first dog I’ve owned in my life! I quickly realized he had a special ability to connect with anybody. We call him the certified lover boy! All of our walks would be stopped from people asking to pet him and he would give everyone a hug and kisses. I started to notice how much joy and happiness he brought to everyone who would interact with him. Zoro has the ability to make everyone smile and feel loved. If you are having a bad day, he will rest his head on your leg and tangly make you smile. Creating an Instagram account allows everyone to see our adventures and bring a smile to everyone!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Pearson: Zoro is half dog half human. What sets him apart is how calm he is and his ability to understand the situation. I am blessed to bring Zoro to work with me every day at Lululemon. He helps us break down boxes and keeps us motivated. He can read body language and has a way of knowing what you want him to do. He is super smart and very athletic, performing tons of tricks like jumping from pole to pole, trust falls into my arms, and climbing up trees!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Pearson: I like to go with the flow of the day and see trends online. I’m starting to do “how-to” videos but also enjoy capturing spontaneous moments that Zoro does. For videos, I try not to press too much and let him create a natural moment while ensuring the camera is always rolling. For photos, I put in more effort like dog selfies or posing in front of cool places.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Pearson: I have not faced much negativity, if any at all. The community is very supportive, and I've met tons of people through Zoro. The only challenge is consistency; it’s hard to keep making reels at times.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Pearson: Get started today! Build a community by commenting on posts, liking photos, and reacting to stories. This will help you grow. Post what you want and don’t overthink it. Eventually, you might develop a vision or a specific image you want to project. Once you start, you will see how fun it is!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Pearson: Zoro has completely changed my life. I take him to work with me every day, and I’ve met so many cool people and visited places I wouldn’t have gone to without a dog. We get recognized every so often, and it’s truly a blessing for what he’s done for me. I appreciate every moment with him and will continue to do so.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Pearson: We worked at Lululemon together, and he would greet everybody in the store before we started. The floors are slick, so he would run and slide on his paws, transition to laying on his back with his belly up, and beg for belly rubs. He would then run to the next person and repeat the same antics. We had no idea how he was always so smooth with his sliding. He was every employee's emotional support dog!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Pearson: My favorite part has to be meeting everyone online and some in person. It’s cool how we all come together because of our dogs, and as a first-time dog owner, I love getting tips from more experienced owners. I also love supporting small businesses; they take all my money, but the products they've created are amazing, and working with them is something I never thought I would be a part of.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Pearson: We plan to go on more adventures to other states this summer! We will travel by car and post travel videos. Also, more training videos. Lastly, Zoro started an introduction to agility, and I’m excited to see how far we can go.
