Today we got the honor of interviewing Amanda (Moxxi's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

My name is Amanda Wonnacott, dog mom to the most perfectly imperfect pug Moxxi. Our story started out as running joke between my husband and I, but it’s become so much more. Life during COVID was a whirlwind for our family. With schools closed for a year and a half, I became a homeschooling teacher for a college student, a high school senior, and a dyslexic fifth grader. It was a time filled with frustration, fear, and isolation. When my son suggested a puppy, I hesitated and questioned if we could handle another responsibility? Thankfully we decided we could and brought Moxxi home. She immediately became exactly what we all needed. Her love, goofiness, and unwavering loyalty brought laughter and connection back into our lives.

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Moxxi immediately stands out from the crowd with her single eye. It's a conversation starter, a spark that compels viewers to pause and take notice before scrolling on. But beyond the initial curiosity, Moxxi's relatability is what truly keeps people engaged. Social media often portrays a facade of flawlessness. We see pristine homes and seemingly effortless happiness. But the reality is, most of us are a mess. Our houses aren't showroom-ready, and dog hair likely adorns most surfaces. We experience a range of emotions, yet social media tends to capture only the highlight reels.

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Moxxi is a daily fountain of hilarious antics! Whether it's a goofy pose or a uniquely persistent way to get what she wants, there's always comedic gold to be captured. I keep my phone handy to grab quick clips of her silliness. Once I have a collection, I head to Instagram to find trending audio that perfectly complements her antics. These mashups have proven to be a viral recipe – viewers adore her endearing quirks!

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Unfortunately yes, but negativity is few and far between. Our first viral video brought unexpected negativity alongside the usual joy. Brachycephalic breeds like pugs have faced criticism lately, with some mistakenly believing them to be miserable due to their short snouts and large eyes.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Absolutely go for it! The internet craves authenticity, and the pet community is a prime example. Showcase what makes your furry friend unique – the way they tilt their head, their zoomies routine, or the special connection you share.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Sometimes it feels as though the days are blurring together. Life's trials and tribulations can be challenging especially when I’m managing my household and when I’m trying to help my daughter navigate middle school and dyslexia. It can feel isolating, like I’m the only one facing these challenges. But then, a wet nose nudges my hand, or a furry head plops into my lap. Moxxi is more than just a pet, she is my constant companion, a furry source of laughter and unconditional love that fills our home with happiness and warmth.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Moxxi, bless her heart, is a certified goofball. She has these hilarious little quirks that make me laugh every single day, and of course, I can't resist trying to capture them on camera.

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

The best part of being a dog influencer isn't the fame (although let's be honest, watching Moxxi on a billboard would be pretty darn cool). It's the connections. Every message, comment, and story from another dog lover is like finding a long-lost friend. We share the same goofy grins when our pups do something ridiculous, the same worried sighs when they're under the weather, and the same heart-melting moments of pure, furry love.

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

The future with Moxxi is bursting with possibilities! We can't wait to explore new adventures together, both online and off. We've been lucky enough to collaborate with some amazing brands, and even won Oxyfresh Pets' best reel contest last year! We hope to build on that success and continue fostering a pawsome partnership with them and other companies.
