Today we got the honor of interviewing Cecelie (Koda & Yogi's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Pikus: Koda became paralyzed in his back legs after a bout with IVDD, and it strengthened the bond between him and Yogi has Yogi helped him recover and learn to adapt to his new life. I wanted to help show other dog owners going through that same thing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and special needs dogs can live very happy and normal lives.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Pikus: Koda is special needs and has a unique story. Not every pet's life is going to work out perfectly but they adapt so much better than we ever could as humans, and Koda has taught me a lot about what is really important in life.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Pikus: I try to photograph/video the two pups interacting and showcasing their love for one another! Sometimes I stage shoots but usually it's organic content.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Pikus: Yes - when Koda and Yogi were posted to The Dodo, there were a lot of negative comments insinuating that Koda's injury was mine or Yogi's fault. It was hard at first, but I had to remember that they didn't know the full story and were spreading misinformation. I had to learn to disengage and focus on the positive!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Pikus: It takes a lot of time, but can be very rewarding! And it should be all about the love you have for your pets, not about a monetary incentive.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Pikus: They have made me a better person, friend, daughter, peer, coworker, and all around more grateful pet owner. I wake up happy every day next to them.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Pikus: Koda once laid in front of a drain pipe for an hour howling because he saw a chipmunk run up it.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Pikus: Hearing stories about other special needs owners and how Koda's story has helped them!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Pikus: We would love to grow our brand together and eventually write a children's book about how being different is okay!
