Today we got the honor of interviewing Amy (Rosie's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Weiske: As a Stage 4 metastatic melanoma cancer patient, I would sit in the infusion chair and watch dog videos during treatment and it brought so much joy to me. Thinking about this, I decided that I would start our own Instagram page because Rosie is the biggest example of happiness that I could think of! It has provided me an escape from the hard times and allowed a wonderful bonding experience with Rosie. My goal was to bring a smile to everyone with Rosie’s love for fetch and her infectious Golden smile!
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Weiske: Great question! I don’t think that she is any different from all the other wonderful dogfluencers out there! We are just here to spread happiness! Rosie does have her quirks that does make her unique like counter surfing, table surfing, and professional toy shredder that seems to resonate with people.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Weiske: I am an “on the fly” kind of person and that is exactly how I approach taking videos of Rosie. My camera is always with me when I am around Rosie because she is very unpredictable and is constantly doing funny things! Of course there are some editing processes, but for the most part, the videos are genuinely Rosie!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Weiske: I don’t get a lot of negativity on social media, but when I do, I don’t give much attention to it. Life is too short to give those people my time or energy!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Weiske: The number one thing is to stay genuine and true to yourself and dog! Rosie doesn’t need to be like every other dog on social media, and either does your dog! Making heartwarming, funny and engaging content is the way to go! Remember that not everyone is going to like your content, and that is ok! Don’t ever take it personally because these are memories you are sharing with the world, but ultimately, those memories are for you and your family.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Weiske: Since I am still in cancer treatment and will be indefinitely, Rosie has taught me to live life to the fullest. Enjoy every day you have because you never know what the future holds. During the rough days, Rosie was always by my side giving me comfort and the smile that I needed in my life. I truly feel that this is how I have been able to get through my challenges.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Weiske: There are so many to choose from! I guess one of the best is when I come downstairs in the morning and find Rosie either standing on the kitchen table or just sitting at the table waiting for me to feed her breakfast! She never begs for food, just sits there patiently. We have never had a dog with this much personality, so it cracks us up!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Weiske: My favorite thing is getting to know everyone and their dog on a personal level. I never knew that the dog community was so large, and full of such kind and special humans. We all have a love for a dogs, so that helps with the bond!
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Weiske: We are always looking for companies to collaborate with! Rosie now is part of @jollypets and this was a huge one for us! Since she is obsessed with retrieving, we tend to focus on companies that align with this. However, we are open to anything and are always grateful for any opportunities that come our way!
