Fi: Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Humphrey's Human: Humphrey being Humphrey inspired me to start sharing his everyday life as a golden retriever living in Hawaii. He’s so spoiled and lives the best life, I wanted everyone to see Humphrey in his everyday life! He would do so many funny things that made me laugh, I knew he would make other people laugh as well! Seeing complete strangers pointing at him and in awe when he’s diving for rocks and fish and seeing the huge smile on their faces when he comes back to shore with one! I knew I wanted more people to see what he could do!
It’s been a fun journey that allowed us to meet so many awesome people and dogs! It allowed me as a dog mom to meet other people like me that I can relate to and talk to! It’s awesome seeing so many like-minded people in one place cheering you on and loving your dog just as much as you love them! It also allowed Humphrey to meet more dogs here in Hawaii that we could have playdates with! So many awesome opportunities have come our way so far along this journey. I can’t wait to see what else it brings!
Fi: What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Humphrey's Human: Humphreys's personality and silly habits set him apart from other social-media dogs.
Humphrey will dive for huge rocks that I can’t even pick up with one hand! He dives for them and brings them to me on shore! He dives for fish and catches good size fish too!! I’ve never met a dog that dives for fish, and it is a good size! Haha if I don’t throw Humphrey rocks at the beach he’ll body-check me every time! It’s so funny, or he’ll sit in the water and wait and stare at me.
He’ll sometimes bark at me and you can hear in his bark he’s saying “Throw me rocks NOW!” Also, he has the cutest swim trunks he wears at the beach! His fashion style is on point with his doggy crocs, hats, swim trunks, and bandanas! He has everything!
Humphrey also lives up to his name Humphrey! Although he is neutered, he still has his hump in him and humps his bed, and sometimes me but I redirect him to his bed! He’s very vocal also when he wants to be, and he makes you laugh at the little things he does! His “parkour” from his bed to the sofa!
Fi: How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Humphrey's Human: I look at all his videos/pictures I take and look at which ones make me laugh! I try to find a good sound and play around with what looks good! It just comes to me, it’s hard to explain, but I know if it makes me laugh, I’m sure others will laugh also!
Fi: Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Yes! One of Humphreys's Halloween costumes was from a recent Netflix series that a lot of people watched but it was a sensitive series for some people! I just deleted the comments, and if the person messaged me I said I was sorry for how they felt and That was it! Humphrey's page is all for fun; no drama is needed! But everyone did love his Halloween costume honestly! Only got 2 or 3 negative comments but 2 were from a robot account haha
Fi: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Humphrey's Human: I would tell that person to have fun with it and show off your dog and what you love about them! Definitely engage with other people and accounts! You meet some awesome souls on Instagram and can make forever friends here! Don’t overthink it all. Honestly have fun and engage with other accounts!
Fi: How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Humphrey's Human: Humphrey has influenced my life outside of social media in so many good ways! Being out here in Hawaii with no family, it’s hard to meet friends cause everyone leaves and I’m not a drinker so I don’t go out to bars. Hawaii is a hard place to make friends, but having Humphrey he allows me to go out more with him and walk and not care. I never feel alone because I have Humphrey. Having him makes me do so much more because I love seeing him happy and excited.
So I want to go out and do more of whatever we are doing! It makes me talk to people more, I’ve always been social but kinda lost my spark at it, so he allowed me to smile more and make those small convos with strangers! He allowed me to make some more friends who have dogs! I set up monthly beach play dates with all other dog moms! He makes me so happy and I’m so grateful he comes to work with me cause he makes the family I nanny for happy! He brings so much love and laughter into my life
Fi: What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Humphrey's Human: Engaging with like-minded people who love their dogs as much as I love Humphrey! I base my life and everything around him! So it’s nice knowing I’m not the only one and I love that Humphrey's special talents and silly habits get seen by so many people
Fi: Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Humphrey's Human: I hope to get some more collaborations for Humphrey and get him out there! Manifesting that for this year!! We hope to be able to meet more awesome brands and be able to get Humphrey known more by others!
