Fi: Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Phyl's Human: I was posting so much of Phyl on my personal Instagram, so I figured she deserved her own. Then I was curious about how to use TikTok, so I figured an account for her would help me figure out how to use the platform!
Fi: What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Phyl's Human: Her breed. She is a Belgian Tervuren, which is not a super common breed on social media. Certainly there are a ton of Tervs around the world on Instagram, but it really is a niche market area on TikTok. Add on to that she's a service dog, and just a beautiful pup who LOVES snoozes. She has a wild personality.
Fi: How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Phyl's Human: If she's doing cute things I try to film her. Super simple. Other than that, I try to do some content related to training or service dogs specifically. Honestly, a lot of her TikToks are her sleeping or otherwise being lazy, but she's such a chill pup that it's not out of character.
Fi: Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Phyl's Human: Folks just being unaware or thinking I am unaware of aspects of dog training and service dogs. More frustrating than anything. Then you of course have the handful of folks that don't think she's gorgeous, which, let's be honest, they're just lying. Haha.
Fi: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Phyl's Human: Just do it! But I would recommend starting it simply because you want to start it, not with an ultimate goal being to like takeover the influencer world. I think that would be too stressful.
Fi: How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Phyl's Human: Well, she's my service dog so she's always with me. She makes my life better at all times, even when she's being a booger.
Fi: What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Phyl's Human: Getting to teach others about the breed and her job as a service dog.
Fi: Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Phyl's Human: Just continue going on adventures.
