DOGFLUENCERS: Meet Nilla, Virginia's Favorite Dogfluencer
Welcome to the ultimate destination for dog enthusiasts and social media mavens alike. At Dogfluencers, we're passionate about showcasing the best and brightest in the world of four-legged fame.
Whether you're looking for adorable photos, heartwarming stories, or expert tips on how to turn your own pup into a social media star, we've got you covered.
Today we got the honor of interviewing Emily (Nilla's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Rand: I started documenting Nilla’s daily life on Instagram to create a diary of her adventures. As her account grew, our community did, too. Her diary has become a way to look back at her life, but also a way to connect with friends and businesses to share and receive pet recommendations.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Rand: The most useful thing about our account is that we only post recommendations for things we’ve tried and love. Sometimes those things are sponsored and sometimes not. But because we’re not chasing followers, we’ve been able to build a micro-community that’s 100% engaged.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Rand: I find inspo in everything! Travel, of course, but also silly or quiet moments at home. Nilla’s voice is inspired by her personality and that makes narrating content easy. I also take at least 50 photos a day and save them for future ideas.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Rand: Absolutely. People really hate when dogs wear shoes. And a lot of our friends are really focused on growing their follower base. I try to focus on all the good energy we get and post what feels authentic.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Rand: The market is not too saturated. Have a story to share. Be authentic. And, start early! I wish we had documented more of Nilla’s puppy content to help new pet parents.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Rand: She’s my angel. My husband and I got Nilla after a house fire — and she brought so much goodness back into our lives. I also started working remotely when we got her, so we’ve been together almost every day her entire life. She’s my best friend.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Rand: Any time Nilla sees someone taking photos, she thinks it’s a photo shoot for her. Because I taught her to “wait” as a puppy, and often had my phone out, she now associates the two and breaks out a pose any time we stop walking.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Rand: Finding really good products and sharing them! It’s great to be able to help someone else.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Rand: More travel content. Nilla was car sick for the first two years of her life, so we didn’t get to take her too many places. Now that she’s more car tolerant, we want to explore the east coast!
