Today we got the honor of interviewing Kelsey (Roy's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Prichard: I adopted my first dog in Feb 2019. He was a 150 lbs golden retriever and I decided to create an Instagram for him to document his weight loss. In 2023 he unfortunately passed from cancer, but I kept the page and document our other pets on here now.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Prichard: I think a lot of people started following us because of the story behind the account. I’m so thankful that people stuck around to get to know me and the other pets after our sweet boy Phil passed. Roy is my first puppy, and definitely posed some challenges. Now we’re focused on taking him on adventures and living his best life. I also discuss grief a lot and dealing with pet loss.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Prichard: I do whatever I feel is fun! I do not do this as a job, so I do things that won’t take up too much time as well. I want our page to seem organic and relatable.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Prichard: Yes, a lot of people said I got a dog too soon after Phil passed. I was able to explain that it was what I felt I needed at the time, and he needed a home too.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Prichard: Be original and be yourself!
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Prichard: It has made me so much more adventurous! I absolutely love the dog community and love the people we’ve met through here.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Prichard: When I had Phil I’ve had some people recognize us on the street! I thought that was cool!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Prichard: The community
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Prichard: Hopefully more adventures and beach trips!
