Today we got the honor of interviewing Diana (Skippy's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Maldonado: I started it just for fun and to meet other weenie dog lovers IRL. I began by signing up my dogs for the Dachshund races. I met other doxie moms and I knew I had found my community. Also Skippy is such an easy model so that really helped.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Maldonado: Skippy's ears and color are definitely something that sets him apart. He is a long-haired shaded cream dachshund. His personality really shines through the camera.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Maldonado: Usually listening to certain audios will help me think of something cute or funny to post. Also whenever I buy a cute outfit for him, I have to post it! I try to take random videos throughout the week of Skippy just doing anything that I think is funny or cute.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Maldonado: Once in awhile. My followers always have my back in the comments. I don't reply to negativity.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Maldonado: People want someone relatable. When they look at your video, they should be thinking, oh my dog does that! Be relatable. Or on the opposite end, stand out. Be different. Showcase something truly unique about your dog.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Maldonado: 100%! I actually run a dachshund meet up group because of it. These wiener dogs take all my free time now. 😆 you can check it out at @the.woof.squad on ig
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Maldonado: I was taking photos of Skippy and his friend Butters. We put them in a bed and had them snuggle each other for a video we were making. They were so cozy that they actually fell asleep and started snoring. Cutest thing ever!
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Maldonado: Special invites to events and/or swag.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Maldonado: We're trying to get better on Tik Tok. We mostly use Instagram but I'm trying to cross over. Follow us at @skippytheweenie for both platforms.
