What to Do with Your Dog in the Fall?

Are you ready for all of those great fall-time things? The fall smells, colors, cool weather, and everything that’s apple and pumpkin-flavored?! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE the fall. And what a better time of year to have some fun with your favorite fur ball? If you’re looking for some fun fall activities to do with your dog this year, check out the great ideas we’ve come up with just for you.

15 Fun Things Can You Do with Your Dog this Fall

Fall is a favorite season for many people, and may even be your dog’s favorite season. With beautiful weather, amazing smells, and lots of fun things to do… What wouldn’t your dog love? So let’s get into the autumn spirit, and spend this fall hanging out with our pups!

1. Apple picking

What’s a better start to the fall season than a trip to the apple orchard? Apple cider, caramel apples, apple pies and cobblers and crisps… YUM! This is a fun outdoor activity that your dog is more than welcome to join you on. And don’t forget… dogs can eat apples too! Just make sure to core them, cut them into small pieces, and let’s leave out all the sugar for the dogs.

2. Pumpkin picking

Pumpkin picking is the same way—a fun, relaxing, outdoor activity you and your pooch can enjoy together. You could even let your dog sniff around and pick out their favorite pumpkin.

3. Pumpkin carving

Who doesn’t love pumpkin carving in the fall? This year, try carving your pumpkin to look like your dog. It could look great or terrible. But either way… it will be hilarious!

4. Eat some pumpkin

Keep all those carved out pumpkin guts and seeds. You can roast the seeds for yourself, and make yourself a delicious pumpkin pie from the pumpkin mush. But make sure to save a little pumpkin—puree—for your pooch. Natural pumpkin—just like the plain pumpkin puree in the store—is a great source of fiber for dogs. And your canine will love the taste!

5. Oktoberfest

Do you love going to Oktoberfest? Lots of cities throughout the U.S. will host Oktoberfest events every year. Not only do you get to enjoy some great beer and bratwurst, but your dog can walk around the event—on leash—with you, and enjoy all the people-watching. It will be a fun time for you both.

6. Tailgating

Fall is definitely known for being football season! Not only can your pooch join your football parties, but they’ll love getting to be outside, tailgating with you. Just remember to bring some food and water for them too.

7. Halloween movie night

Ready to cozy up with your furry best friend? Pop in a scary movie, grab the popcorn, and cuddle in on the couch for a Halloween movie marathon.

8. Halloween pet parade

Lots of cities love to add in Halloween pet parades to their fall events. Dogs can get dressed up and show off their stuff to compete for best, scariest, most creative, or cutest pet costume.

9. Trick-or-treating

Don’t get rid of that costume just yet! It’s time for some trick-or-treating. And what better way to spend that night than with your precious dog by your side? I bet you’ll get some extra candy or even some dog treats for having your cute pup with you.

10. Costume party

And don’t forget about the parties! Everyone will love to see how incredibly adorable your dog looks all dressed up. You could even coordinate your costume with theirs. And have you seen those hilarious dog costumes online that look like a dog is actually walking around like a human? I can’t get enough of those!

11. Fall nature hike

Take in all of those wonderful fall foliage colors and great fall leaf smells on a hike through the woods. Your dog needs lots of exercise and outdoor time. So you might as well enjoy the surrounding nature as you walk or run together. And if you’re worried about your dog running off, you can try out the Fi Smart Dog Collar to keep track of your pup’s location at all times.

12. Fall photo shoot

Since you’re out in nature already, get out that smart phone or professional camera to get some great fall pics of your furbaby. Maybe even bring a friend, so they can take pictures of you and your dog together.

13. Leaf pile jumping

This is such a simple, fun, hilarious activity you can do right in your own backyard. Just rake up some leaves into a pile, and let your dog loose. They will have a blast running into or jumping on top of the pile of leaves, just like a kid. And don’t forget to take a video of it.

14. Hayride

Another fun fall outdoor activity—the classic hayride! You and your dog can go for a relaxing hayride together after a long day full of fall fun. Just sit back, relax, and take in the sights.

15. Weekend vacation

Before the weather gets too cold, take a weekend trip with your pup. There are certain areas that are known for their beautiful fall foliage. And don’t you deserve a vacation anyway?

Happy Fall Ya’ll
