Is Seattle a Dog-Friendly City?

Are Dogs Allowed in National Parks?
Those who live in Seattle are lucky! There are three famous national parks within a short drive of the city: Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades. Although I wish your dog could hike with you all throughout these parks, that’s not quite the case.

1. Mount Rainier
Sadly, Mount Rainier is totally off limits to dogs. But dogs are allowed on a few trails of the other two parks.
2. North Cascades
Dogs are not allowed on most of the trails of North Cascades… Except for the section of the Pacific Crest Trail that intersects with North Cascades National Park. Just remember to keep your dog on-leash, and clean up after their waste.
3. Olympic
Dogs are only allowed on these specific trails within Olympic National Park. And as before, you’ll have to keep your dog on-leash, and pick up their waste.

- Rialto Beach parking lot to Ellen Creek (1/2 mile)
- The beaches between the Hoh and Quinault Reservations (Kalaloch area)

- July Creek Loop Trail (North shore of Lake Quinault)
Are there Dog-Friendly Hiking Trails Near Seattle?
Although you can’t take your dog through all the trails of the National Parks, you can take them on other beautiful hiking trails in and around Seattle. There are quite a few, but here’s a list of some of the top rated dog-friendly trails. And as it is with all dog-friendly trails… Dogs must remain on-leash at all times. And you must clean up their “waste.”
1. Barclay Lake
Barclay Lake is a 2.2-mile dog-friendly trail (4.4-mile out-and-back). It’s a great hike for any skill level, and is pretty heavily trafficked. You and your pup can enjoy the peaceful lake together.
2. Cedar Butte
Cedar Butte is a 3.5-mile dog-friendly hiking trail. You’ll see beautiful mountain views like Mount Si and Mailbox Peak. This trail is a more moderate hike.
3. Red Top Lookout
Red Top Lookout is an easy dog-friendly trail for all skill levels. It’s just 1-mile long, but you’ll get to see some amazing 360-degree views of the mountains. This is the perfect hike if you’re looking for minimal effort, and maximum reward.
4. Tonga Ridge
Tonga Ridge is also an easy skill level hike. But keep in mind that you’ll be hiking for 8 miles round-trip. This popular dog-friendly trail is up on a ridge, and gives you some great views that are different in every season.
Are Dogs Allowed in Restaurants in Seattle?
Ready for a lunch date with your dog? I bet your little furbaby would love to check out the sights of downtown Seattle with you. And these places take dog-friendliness to the next level!
1. Growlerz
Growlerz is a dog-friendly bar with a large off-leash doggy play park. And dogs are welcome inside too. This place is all about dogs, beer, and community. They serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, but no food—so you can bring your own. They even have doggy daycare and dog training available!
2. Dog Yard Bar
Dog Yard Bar is an “indoor/outdoor off leash play park and bar” in Seattle. You and your pup can both be social butterflies here. This bar has a variety of drinks, plus desserts, breakfast burritos, pizzas, and soft pretzels. And on Sundays they have bottomless Mimosas!
3. Dog Lounge Bakery

What are the Best Dogs Parks in Seattle?

1. Golden Gardens
Golden Gardens is a 1-acre off-leash dog park where your pooch can roam free. They have canine agility equipment, and some on-leash walking trails outside of the dog park area.
2. Magnuson Park
Magnuson Park is an 8.6-acre off-leash dog park. And it actually has a dog-friendly beach! Your dog can splash and swim here, or run around in the grass and gravel areas.
3. Woodland Park
Woodland Park has a 1-acre off-leash dog area with hills and flat land. There’s plenty of shade trees to keep you both cool on hot days. And It’s right by the beautiful Green Lake.
