Is Seattle a Dog-Friendly City?

Seattle is known for its coffee culture, the Space Needle, and the Seahawks. And for its outdoorsy lifestyle, and amazing places to hike or kayak within just an hour or two of downtown. In Seattle, you get the city life right next door to the mountains. And the best part is, your pup can experience so much of that with you! Let’s check out some of the most dog-friendly places to go and things to do in Seattle.

Are Dogs Allowed in National Parks?

Those who live in Seattle are lucky! There are three famous national parks within a short drive of the city: Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades. Although I wish your dog could hike with you all throughout these parks, that’s not quite the case.

Here’s what you need to know about each national park, and where your dog is or isn’t allowed to go. And if you’re worried about your dog running off, try out the Fi Smart Dog Collar to keep track of your pup’s location at all times.

1. Mount Rainier

Sadly, Mount Rainier is totally off limits to dogs. But dogs are allowed on a few trails of the other two parks.

2. North Cascades

Dogs are not allowed on most of the trails of North Cascades… Except for the section of the Pacific Crest Trail that intersects with North Cascades National Park. Just remember to keep your dog on-leash, and clean up after their waste.

  • The beaches between the Hoh and Quinault Reservations (Kalaloch area)
  • Madison Falls Trail (Elwha)
  • Spruce Railroad Trail (North shore of Lake Crescent)
