Today we got the honor of interviewing Azia (Chandler's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer?
Mortensen: I have wanted a corgi for as long as I can remember. I am currently a mom of two and work from home and I thought what better way to add to the chaos! Let’s introduce a puppy into the mix! My kids love him though and it’s fun to share these adventures with our fur baby.
What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Mortensen: I have wanted a corgi for as long as I can remember. I am currently a mom of two and work from home and I though what better way to add to the chaos! Let’s introduce a puppy into the mix! My kids love him though and it’s fun to share these adventures with our fur baby.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media?
Mortensen: I get asked all the time if he is a pure corgi due to his dark little snout and I love that feature of his! It truly makes him stand out amongst others but he’s also breaking the stigma that corgis aren’t family dogs. They totally are!
What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Mortensen: I get asked all the time if he is a pure corgi due to his dark little snout and I love that feature of his! It truly makes him stand out amongst others but he’s also breaking the stigma that corgis aren’t family dogs. They totally are!
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content?
Mortensen: I try to include him in things that I am interested in. Supporting local businesses, trying new restaurants, being active. He’s been a great motivator for me to become active again after falling into motherhood so heavily.
Do you have a specific creative process?
Mortensen: There’s not much creative process behind what we post, I like for things to look and feel natural. There’s so much curated content in the internet already and want to create a space for natural, sometimes messy content!
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Mortensen: We have yet to experience any negativity, luckily. However, I know as we grow it will most likely happen and that’s okay. You can only face those obstacles with kindness and know it’s not a reflection on you but on the person who hit send.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Mortensen: Be prepared to be consistent! The consistency has been big for us but also knowing that it does take time and dedication. It’s not easy but there is space for everyone on the internet and give yourself grace.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Mortensen: I am more bold and willing to take him places and not care about what others think. I’m that dog mom that’s following her dog with a camera and it’s okay because I enjoy it for me and if someone else doesn’t like it. They just probably won’t follow us! Lol
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Mortensen: We got a new leash and I was trying to film some content for it. While walking to the park and not looking Chandler went one way and I was going another, he tripped over the sidewalk and rolled himself up in the new leash. He also loves to boop the camera every time I’m trying to film and just wants belly rubs.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Mortensen: Connecting with other dog influencer parents! It’s so fun to have discovered this new community. We frequent a dog park by our house and people know who he is now and I’m known as “Chandlers mom” more than I am known as Azia. It’s cute and I love that people adore him like we do.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media?
Mortensen: I’d like to show myself a bit more in his content and get into some of the skits but I just love showing his personality. He’s so goofy and we would love to keep making connections locally and all across.
