Today we got the honor of interviewing Chris (Cole the Deaf Dog's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Hannah: Adopting a deaf dog was an incredible first step in our journey. I originally adopted Cole because of my nephew, who was also born deaf. Cole is now a full-time certified therapy dog that works alongside me every day in my elementary school music classroom.
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Hannah: Cole's unique ability as a therapy dog to help a vast array of individuals has set him apart and earned him the title of ASPCA National Dog of the Year in 2023 and the American Humane National Hero Therapy Dog in 2022.
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Hannah: I look for special key moments that take place naturally and organically throughout the day rather than staging.
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Hannah: Being a pitbull breed, Cole has faced incredible adversity from anti-pitbull naysayers. However, we turn these into life lessons of discrimination for children to understand.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Hannah: Stay true to YOUR style of content and be original.
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Hannah: Cole has led me into a life of service and volunteering, as a veteran therapy dog as well as a hospice therapy dog.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Hannah: Cole has a particular specialty in napping during the noisiest parts of music class/concerts. He fell asleep in the midst of a class dance party, on his back, on a bean bag, mouth open, and snoring. All while 30 students were dancing and loudly laughing.
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Hannah: Being able to share what we hope is an inspirational & positive bit of content for everyone’s feeds daily.
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Hannah: We will continue unique ways of demonstrating our skills that a disability is not an inability, it’s a superpower in Cole's case.
