If you’re not aware, San Francisco is a very dog-friendly city! This place has tons of pet-friendly restaurants, bars, parks, beaches, and even hotels. Although the full list is much more than we could share here, we’ll tell you a few of our favorites from each category. And what each one has to offer.
Are Dogs Allowed in San Francisco Restaurants?
There are tons of restaurants and bars in San Francisco where your pooch can come along with you! But it’s always good to double check the policy ahead of time. Here’s a few places you can be sure will welcome your canine with open arms.
1. Palm House
Palm House calls themselves “San Francisco’s Staycation Destination.” Their Caribbean beach theme is both beautiful and relaxing. And their food and drinks do not disappoint! They have a large, outdoor patio that is pet-friendly. And the staff here love pups so much they’ll bring your dog some doggy treats and their own water bowl.
2. Rose’s Cafe
Rose’s Cafe is a quaint restaurant with delicious french cuisine and pastries. Their outdoor patio is dog-friendly. And if your pooch is good, the staff will bring them some treats! Rose’s serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. But don’t forget to try their desserts and cocktails.
3. Zazie
Zazie is super dog-friendly! This fun eatery serves French cuisine. Although it serves food all day, it is most known for its breakfast and brunch menus. And if you’re a pet parent, you definitely want to visit this place on a Monday night. Every Monday they have an event called “Zazie Goes to the Dogs” where your pooch can join you on their large outdoor patio under the twinkling lights, and you can meet other dog lovers! During these events, your pooch will receive unlimited doggy treats, and you’ll receive $10 OFF any bottle of wine. Who could pass up that opportunity?
What Beaches in San Francisco Allow Dogs?
San Francisco is known for their beaches! And the best part is that you can bring your pup to a lot of them. Make sure to check ahead of time to see which ones are pet-friendly, and which ones require your dog to be on-leash.

1. Bolina Beach
Bolina is a dog-friendly beach with some gorgeous mountain views. It has an off-leash area for dogs, and is known for water sports, bird-watching, and sunbathing on the beach. It’s perfect if you want a combination of beach time and mountain views.
2. Baker Beach
This popular dog-friendly beach is pretty busy, but it’s a fun spot to hang out with your favorite fur ball and meet other pet parents. It’s completely free, but you’ll need to bring your own waste bags. And dogs need to remain on-leash the whole time.
3. Muir Beach
This dog-friendly beach is a perfect spot if you’re looking for somewhere not too crowded. This peaceful spot allows dogs to roam off-leash. And there are walking trails nearby for you and your pup. You can also enjoy some bird-watching, and even whale-watching on the shore.
Are Dogs Allowed in San Francisco Parks?
In addition to the beaches, there are plenty of dog parks and dog-friendly green spaces where you and your fur ball can roam, run, and get some fresh air.
Dogs on-leash are welcome at most any park in San Francisco, but there are 19 off-leash areas in the city. You can check the San Francisco Parks website ahead of time, but here’s a few of our favorites.
1. Dolores Dog Park
Dolores Park is a popular outdoor space for the citizens of San Francisco. Pups can run free and off-leash in one of the two dog play areas, or in the center of the large, grassy park. And they are allowed to roam on-leash near the sports fields, children’s playground, and tennis courts.
2. Bernal Heights Dog Park
Bernal Heights Dog Park is a 35-acre grassy, off-leash area where dogs can play freely. There are gorgeous views of the city skyline from the hilltops in the park. Both residents and non-residents of the area love this giant green space.
3. Buena Vista Dog Park
“Buena vista” is actually Spanish for “good view,” which perfectly describes this dog park. You’ll see amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and even St. Ignatius Church. There’s an off-leash area where your pup can roam free. And lots of on-leash walking trails for you and your dog to stroll together as you enjoy the green grass, shade trees, and hilltop views. If your dog is the adventurous-type, they can have fun jumping on and climbing the boulders too.
What is the Most Pet-Friendly Hotel Chain?
If you’re vacationing with your pup, there are tons of pet-friendly hotels in San Francisco. Some have limits on the number and size of animals you bring, and some charge a pet fee. But here’s a couple of our top favorites.
1. Kimpton Hotel
The Kimpton Hotel is my top favorite pet-friendly hotel chain. They are located all across the United States, and have no pet fees. They allow large dogs, and you can bring as many as you’d like. They will also give your pooch a plush pet bed, food and water bowls, and pet mats.
2. Laurel Inn
The Laurel Inn also has no pet fees and allows you to bring two pets. They can be cats and/or dogs of any size. And they are conveniently located near popular attractions in the Pacific District.
3. Hotel Triton
Hotel Triton is a nice, pet-friendly hotel in San Francisco that is budget-friendly. There is no pet fee, and you can have 2+ pets, but you cannot bring large dogs.
Is it Hard to Have a Dog in San Francisco?
