What is a Vizsla Pit Bull Mix?

Have you ever seen a Vizsla Pit Bull before? This beautiful mixed breed will melt your heart. Purebreds are great, but if you can find a reputable breeder to create this designer dog breed for you, you will love the combination of the Vizsla and the Pit Bull.

A designer dog breed is when a breeder uses two purebred dogs, and intentionally mixes them together. This way you can have the best of both dogs, and you'll know what their family history is. And that they were bred by a safe, reputable breeder. But if you happen to find one of these lovable pups at an animal shelter, adoption is a great way to go! There are tons of dogs waiting for loving families to invite them into their homes.

Before we can find out if the Vizsla Pit Bull mix is the right breed mix for you, let’s look into each of the individual breed’s personalities and physical traits.

What is a Vizsla?

The Vizsla is a hunting dog from the sporting group. The American Kennel Club describes their personality as: “Affectionate. Energetic. Gentle." These beautiful dogs come in a reddish-brown, golden color that the AKC calls “golden rust,” with short hair, long legs, and floppy ears. They look like a typical hunting dog.

The Vizsla’s height can range from 21-24 inches. They usually weigh between 44 lbs. and 60 lbs. And their life expectancy is 12 to 14 years. These dogs rank a 5 out of 5 for being affectionate with their family and being good with children. They are also very good with other dogs, have a low drooling level, and have fur coats that are very easy to take care of.

Vizslas also rank a 5 out of 5 for adaptability level, trainability level, energy level, and mental stimulation needs. This means that the Vizsla needs lots and lots of outdoor run around and play time, lots of mental stimulation, and lots of attention. This is the perfect dog for someone who is extremely active outdoors and has a large fenced-in backyard where the Vizsla can run free frequently.

What is a Pit Bull?

As common as Pit Bulls are in the United States, the American Kennel Club does not actually recognize the American Pitbull Terrier just yet. But don't worry, the United Kennel Club does recognize this breed, and helps give a look into what the Pit Bull is all about.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is usually about 17 to 19 inches tall, and weighs about 30 lbs. to 65 lbs. And they usually live to be about 12 years old. The pit bull has very short fur. They are often a reddish brown or golden color, but can also come in dark brown or even black. And they typically have some white on their chest and feet. You can brush them regularly, and just bathe them occasionally or as necessary. Their coat is very easy to maintain.

These dogs are known for being authoritative and seemingly intimidating. But they are actually very loving and protective of their families. They are definitely little tanks because they are short and stout, and very strong. Pit Bulls are described as hardworking, friendly, brave, and loyal.

Are Vizslas Pit Bull Mixes Aggressive?

Vizslas are only moderately protective by nature, and are actually pretty open to strangers. And although Pit Bull Terriers were bred to herd livestock and protect their family—especially the children—there is no need to be afraid of Pit Bulls. Just like with any dog breed, this dog will need healthy socialization early on, and intentional training.

In addition to training and socialization, getting plenty of exercise will help your Vizsla Pit Bull to remain on their best behavior.  As we said above, the Vizsla is a very high-energy dog, and the Pit Bull is used to being a working dog. Both of these pups need mental stimulation and exercise to feel like they are accomplishing the jobs they were bred to do.
