Today we got the honor of interviewing Marisol (Melo's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.

Here is their story:

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?

Ortiz:We wanted to share Melo's world with everyone – he's got this curious and fun personality that always cracks us (and our followers!) up. You'll see his adventures with the family, going on walks, trying out small business treats, and more! We're also working on some super cool content for Melo, including a feature on the Fi Dog blog – stay tuned to see what he gets up to next! We'd love for you to join us on this journey and watch Melo grow! Follow us on IG at @itsmelotheboxer today!

What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?

Ortiz:Melo's got this contagious energy and the cutest facial expressions that always keep our followers guessing what he's up to next. But really, it's his one-of-a-kind personality that shines through in everything he does. Creating relatable content while letting him do his own thing, it's too fun!

How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?

Ortiz: Here are a few ways we come up with posts ideas!

  • Tapping into trends: Keeping an eye on trending audio and video challenges on the 'gram'! Putting our own spin on these trends to create engaging content featuring Mr. Melo and his bestie, Skye (@skyemommas on IG).
  • Mixing it up: Balancing out trendy content with relatable, everyday moments featuring Melo and our family in our stories! Truly anything from a walk in the park to a cozy cuddle session on the couch.
  • Foster interaction: Incorporate engagement posts like polls and questions to get our followers involved. This is a great way to build a community of dog lovers who feel connected to Melo and our page.

So really, by combining trending content with relatable moments and interactive elements, we are working to keep our audience engaged and entertained!

Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?

Ortiz: We've come a long way in the last few weeks on Instagram! Almost at 1K in a few short weeks. We've run into some scam offers, but thankfully that's all, we've received some great support from other cool petfluencers. We try to steer away from anything that may get us into instajail! Carefully commenting, slowly following back, and not spam messaging.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?

Ortiz: Go for it! It's a few clicks away and the possibilities are endless if you put your mind to it.

Showcase your dog's personality. What makes your pup special? Let their unique quirks and energy shine through in your posts.

High-quality content is key! Invest in good lighting and editing to create visually appealing content. This is something we are working on improving but we love it so far!

Be consistent.... Regularly share engaging content to keep your audience coming back for more. We post daily, sometimes we miss a day, and that's okay!

Engage with your followers!!!! Respond to comments, answer questions, and run polls to build a community. Make it fun!

Find your niche! Niche! Niche! Niche!!! Is your dog a cuddle monster, a fashionista, or a champion at playing fetch? Cater your content to their strengths and interests!

Use relevant hashtags... Research popular hashtags related to dogs and dog lovers to increase your reach. It's always changing but the most recent thing I've learned is use 10 at least, related to your target audience and remember the keywords in your caption help reach, too!

Most importantly....Have fun! The most important thing is to capture the joy you share with your furry friend.

How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?

Ortiz: Melo has truly enriched our life. Our new pup has brought a structured routine with walks and playtime, and those early mornings our in the yard have become a welcome way to start the day. It's also teaching our kids responsibility and compassion for animals. But the most rewarding part is the companionship - our new dog is a great playmate for Skye, and their presence fills our home with love and joy. Cuddles on the couch included!

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?

Ortiz: When we went to adopt Melo, we couldn't resist and called some family members up to adopt his siblings. They did! Now Melo gets to have playdates with his sister, and brother @mr.kainwick!

What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?

Ortiz: Content creation! So fun! Learning new ideas, tips, and tricks from other dog influencers. Mostly, capturing Melo in action and sharing it with our followers!

Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?

Ortiz: We are welcoming collaborations with other pet influencers or brands that complement your pup's personality. Hoping it leads to fun joint content or giveaways.
