Today we got the honor of interviewing Cookie (Cookie's Human). You can find a direct link to their Instagram here.
Here is their story:
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a dog influencer? What inspired you to start sharing your dog's adventures on social media?
Lyon: So as many people are aware, the UK recently brought into law that XL Bully type dogs are now to be listed as a banned breed of dog. We are based in Ireland so are very close neighbours to the UK and were completely enraged by the talks of this new law and what it was going to result in for thousands of XL Bully type dogs across the UK. We felt that there was no better time to put Cookie out there in the public eye so we could try to change the public perception of these dogs! We are big advocates for responsible ownership and onus being placed on irresponsible owners instead of blaming a particular breed of dog! So that's where our story started on social media with Cookie and we're so proud to continue to advocate for our beautiful girl and all of the dogs out there that are suffering from misinformation and lack of education! Our dogs don't have a voice of their own so we took it upon ourselves to be hers 🩷
What do you think sets your dog apart from other dogs on social media? What makes them unique or particularly interesting to your followers?
Lyon: We are very real with the content we create - we show the good, the bad and the ugly all while having some fun and a bit of a laugh! We take humour, respect, love and good fun above all else 🩷
How do you come up with ideas for your dog's posts and content? Do you have a specific creative process?
Lyon: We're obsessed with Cookie and so we have hundreds of videos and pics of her on our phones !! From these we follow some trends but also just let our creative juices flow sometimes ! We have so much fun creating the content we post so there's absolutely not one process that we follow 😂 ! Fun, factual and relatable - thats our motto 🩷
Have you ever faced any challenges or negativity on social media, and how have you dealt with it?
Lyon: I think its very easy to get sucked into the world of social media but we make a very conscious effort to remind ourselves that it's just all a bit of fun! We love sharing Cookie with the world and so far the followers that we've gained have been from nothing other than love for Cookie and her breed which is fantastic !! We created Cookie's page to spread positivity and awareness, and if Cookie managed to go viral for all the right reasons then job done 👏🏽🫶🏽
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own dog influencer account or share their dog on social media?
Lyon: Keep it real, keep it relatable and most of all - have fun with it! After all, we're all just a bunch of grown adults on here pretending to speak for our dogs 😂🩷
How has your dog influenced your life outside of social media?
Lyon: In more ways than I can even begin to describe! One of the main things that I feel like I've learned from her is how important your dogs body language is! If you educate yourself in understanding your dogs needs and tells in different situations and surroundings then you'll find that your ability to read them will make your life with them so much easier !
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or funny moment you've had with your dog during one of your photo shoots or adventures?
Lyon: Cookie makes us laugh on the daily with her silliness and sassiness !! But one time in particular she decided to get a little braver than usual on a walk one day and took a closer sniff at a local river ! She slipped on the muck at the river bank and tumbled head first into the river! She then panicked and SWAM TO THE OTHER SIDE 😂🙈!!!! I spent about 10 minutes crawling across trees to get over to her only to jump as I had just gotten to her and slip into the river myself! I ended up thigh deep in the water, lifting her back across the river by her harness because she refused to swim back ! No exaggeration, I laughed at the state of us the whole way back to the car - fun times 😂🩷
What is your favorite thing about being a dog influencer?
Lyon: Being able to give our dog a voice in a world where she has the odds stacked against her before she even passes the front door 🩷
Lastly, what's next for you and your dog on social media? Any exciting plans or projects in the works?
Lyon: This is a hard one because we have so many ideas and have all of the will and want to try to make a change in our world when it comes to dogs and dog ownership! But right now resourcing and finances are what stands in our way - but hopefully not forever! We have such big dreams that we hope will one day come to fruition ! Watch this space 🫶🏽🩷
